Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join the South West London and St George's Perinatal Mental Health Service.

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Perinatal Mental Health Nurse to join our Wandsworth sub-team.

The successful candidate will ideally have essential perinatal mental health experience and be committed to delivering compassionate, trauma-informed, family-centered care.

Main duties of the job

As a Specialist Perinatal Nurse within the Perinatal Mental Health Service, you will provide a high standard of evidence-based assessment, formulation, and intervention for women experiencing complex and enduring mental health difficulties during the perinatal period.

As a core member of our multidisciplinary team, you will hold a defined caseload, carry out timely assessments, deliver specialist interventions, and work collaboratively with the MDT and other services across the care pathway including maternity, HTT, inpatient units and the MBU. Your interventions will promote recovery, wellbeing, and the development of positive mother-infant relationships.

The post holder will manage a defined caseload, undertake comprehensive risk assessments, and contribute to diagnostic and multidisciplinary care formulations. You will also participate in duty and triage functions, supporting the team to meet clinical and performance targets while ensuring safe and effective care.

The role includes providing clinical supervision, mentoring and training to students.

Collaboration with partner agencies is central to this role, and experience of inter-agency working and child protection procedures is desirable.

Job description Job responsibilities

To have a working knowledge of the Perinatal pathway

To manage individual patient pathways to ensure high quality services and care planning outcomes are achieved

To deliver, or support the delivery of, highly specialist evidence-based assessment, care planning, treatment and review for women in the perinatal period.

To provide specialist consultation, advice and support on best practice when working with pregnant women and women with infants up to one year old.

To provide case management to a caseload of pregnant women or those with an infant up to one year old.

To take action in respect of Safeguarding Policies and Procedures as required

Following robust assessment to recommend safe and effective care pathways, ensuring all interventions are fully assessed, planned, implemented and evaluated

To support in the identification and reporting of deficits within current service provision.

Provide specialist nursing assessment, advice and consultation to colleagues in all the disciplines in the team.

To provide high quality written reports of any assessments undertaken, with clear plans for ongoing management.

Person Specification

Training & Qualification Essential

NMC registered Educated to degree level or equivalent. Hold a teaching qualification to educate midwives GP's and fellow mental health practitioners' on perinatal risk issues.

Desirable

Management Qualification Additional Specialist training, e.g. Diploma in Perinatal Mental Health Supervision Training

Experience Essential

Considerable experience in adult mental health and community settings Experience of working as an autonomous clinical practitioner and managing a complex case load. Audit and research skills and ability to interpret and apply to practice Knowledge of family/group/cognitive and behaviour therapies

Desirable

Experience in the assessment and treatment of Perinatal mental health Experience in children's nursing

Knowledge & Skills Essential

Proven ability working with adult women with mental health problems. The ability to assess, plan and implement care programmes for adults presenting with complex difficulties/disorders Management of case load by prioritising need and urgency Excellent communication skills both written and verbal

Desirable

Clinical skills working with Perinatal women The ability to apply in practice interventions based in different theoretical frameworks e.g. psychodynamic (individual and/or group) family/systems, behavioural and cognitive.
