Job Title: Maintenance TechnicianJob DescriptionThe Maintenance Technician performs primarily mechanical maintenance on conveyor systems, baler machines, and box-making machines within a large, modern distribution center. The role also involves basic industrial electrical work, including replacing 3-phase 480V motors and gearboxes, sensors, relays, and photo eyes, as well as general building maintenance such as drywall repair, painting, and plumbing. The technician supports the reliability and safety of packaging line equipment, minor forklift and conveyor systems, and building infrastructure. Responsibilities • Perform mechanical maintenance on conveyor systems, baler machines, and box-making machines to ensure reliable and efficient operation. • Conduct basic industrial electrical maintenance, including replacing 3-phase 480V motors, gearboxes, sensors, relays, and photo eyes. • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and maintain both mechanical and electrical systems across the distribution center. • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and maintain control wiring and electrical circuits associated with packaging and conveyor equipment. • Maintain and repair building systems, including drywall, painting, plumbing, and general facility upkeep. • Support maintenance of packaging line equipment, minor forklift systems, and conveyor equipment throughout the distribution center. • Apply a solid understanding of self-automated packaging line equipment to identify issues and implement effective solutions. • Perform preventive maintenance tasks to reduce downtime and extend equipment life. • Start up air compressors at the beginning of the shift and shut them down at the end of the shift in accordance with operating procedures. • Operate scissor and boom lifts after receiving training, using them to access equipment and building areas safely. • Follow established safety procedures and contribute to a strong safety culture in all maintenance activities. • Keep work areas organized and clean, ensuring tools and equipment are properly stored and maintained. Essential Skills • Hands-on experience as a maintenance technician in an industrial or distribution center environment. • Strong mechanical skills with demonstrated ability to maintain and repair conveyor systems, baler machines, and box-making machines. • Basic industrial electrical experience, including replacing 3-phase 480V motors and gearboxes. • Ability to replace and maintain sensors, relays, and photo eyes on automated equipment. • Proficiency in troubleshooting and diagnosing mechanical and electrical systems. • Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and maintain control wiring and electrical circuits. • Good understanding of self-automated packaging line equipment and its operation. • Experience with preventive maintenance practices in an industrial setting. • Capability to perform general building maintenance, including drywall work, painting, and plumbing. • Familiarity with hydraulics and pneumatics in relation to industrial machinery. • Ability and willingness to learn safe operation of scissor and boom lifts. • Strong commitment to safety and adherence to established safety protocols. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Previous experience working in a large distribution center or similar high-throughput environment. • Experience maintaining minor forklift systems and conveyor equipment. • Comfort working with both mechanical and electrical aspects of packaging line equipment. • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a well-organized maintenance setting. • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail when diagnosing equipment issues. • Effective communication skills for coordinating with team members and other departments. • Willingness to support both retail and e-commerce operations within the facility as needed. Work EnvironmentThe role is based in a very modern, climate-controlled, and clean 325,000-square-foot distribution center that is highly organized and focused on safety. The facility features extensive conveyor systems as the primary equipment, along with packaging line machinery, balers, and box-making equipment. The distribution center supports both retail locations and e-commerce operations, providing a dynamic and varied workload. You will work with industrial equipment, including air compressors, scissor lifts, and boom lifts, in a setting designed for comfort and efficiency, with clear processes and a strong emphasis on maintaining an orderly workspace. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ashland, VA. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $30.00 - $30.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
