Job Title: Janitorial WorkerJob DescriptionThis full-time janitorial role focuses on maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly environment across a multi-floor technical facility that includes labs, office space, restrooms, storage areas, staircases, cleanrooms, and a café. The position is available on first shift (7:00 a.m. 3:30 p.m.) and second shift (11:00 a.m. 7:30 p.m.), Monday through Friday, and involves active, hands-on cleaning in multiple areas each week. Responsibilities • Clean all phases of the facility on a regular schedule, including offices, hallways, staircases, storage rooms, restrooms, cleanrooms, and café areas. • Perform general janitorial tasks such as dusting, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and emptying and replacing trash bins throughout the facility. • Operate floor scrubber equipment safely after training to maintain floors in labs, offices, and common areas. • Use a backpack vacuum, sterile mop, and bucket to clean countertops and floors in cleanroom environments, following established procedures. • Maintain restrooms in a clean and sanitary condition, including floors, fixtures, and trash removal. • Follow safe cleaning practices at all times, including posting wet floor signs and using appropriate protective equipment. • Work primarily independently to complete assigned cleaning tasks, while occasionally partnering with coworkers to handle larger or more complex cleaning projects. • Move equipment and supplies between floors using stairs and elevator access designated for equipment, ensuring safe handling and transport. • Report any maintenance or safety issues observed during cleaning to the appropriate contact so they can be addressed promptly. • Adhere to facility standards for appearance, cleanliness, and safety to support a professional and well-maintained work environment. Essential Skills • At least 1 year of professional cleaning, custodial, or housekeeping experience. • Proficiency in core janitorial duties, including sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, trash removal, and general clean-up. • Ability to clean office spaces, labs, hallways, staircases, restrooms, storage rooms, cleanrooms, and café areas with attention to detail. • Capability to use cleaning tools such as backpack vacuums, sterile mops, buckets, and other janitorial equipment. • Dependable and consistent work habits, with a strong sense of responsibility for completing assigned tasks. • Positive attitude and professional, friendly personality when working independently or with partners. • Ability to follow safety procedures, including cleaning safely and posting wet floor signs. • Physical ability to perform active janitorial work, including standing, walking, bending, lifting, and using stairs throughout the shift. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Willingness to be trained on operating a floor scrubber machine and other facility-specific cleaning equipment. • Comfort working in cleanroom environments and following detailed cleaning protocols. • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with partners on larger cleaning tasks. • Strong reliability in maintaining schedule and completing tasks during assigned first or second shift hours. • Attention to detail in maintaining cleanliness standards across multiple facility areas, including labs and office spaces. Work EnvironmentThe role is based entirely inside a multi-floor facility that includes labs, office space, restrooms, and storage areas. Work is performed across two floors, using stairs regularly, with elevator access designated for equipment. The environment is active and hands-on, with most tasks completed independently, and occasional work with partners to tackle larger cleaning assignments. Available shifts are Monday through Friday: first shift from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and second shift from 11:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. All necessary cleaning equipment and protective gear for cleanrooms are provided. The dress code requires closed-toe, steel-toe shoes or boots, and a solid-color shirt with khakis or other nice pants; sweatpants and leggings are not permitted. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Ann Arbor, MI. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $16.00 - $16.00/hr.
