Senior Industrial Electrician / Maintenance Technician - El Cajon, CAJob Description
• This role combines industrial electrical expertise with hands-on maintenance technician responsibilities in a manufacturing and machine shop environment. You will maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and improve electrical infrastructure and production support systems across multiple buildings, while also performing mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and facility maintenance. A strong background in electrical repair and installation is essential, as you will support the setup and installation of new equipment, allocate power throughout the facility, evaluate existing systems for upgrades, and help ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations. Responsibilities
• Maintain and troubleshoot facility electrical distribution systems, including 440V and 480V power systems and 3-phase equipment. • Repair and support motor controls, VFDs, PLC-controlled equipment, control panels, relays, contactors, transformers, and industrial electrical equipment. • Lead electrical equipment upgrades, replacements, and infrastructure improvement projects such as installing larger panels, rerouting power, and improving power allocation throughout the facility. • Plan and execute electrical shutdowns, tie-ins, and panel preventive maintenance, including checking for loose fuses, hot spots, and continuity using appropriate test equipment. • Perform root cause analysis on electrical failures and implement corrective actions to improve reliability and reduce downtime. • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, one-line diagrams, technical drawings, and general construction drawings for plumbing, hydraulics, electrical, and pneumatics. • Maintain electrical asset records and work documentation within a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS). • Support equipment installations, startups, and commissioning activities for new and existing production machinery. • Develop and execute preventive and predictive maintenance plans for both production equipment and facility systems. • Ensure compliance with electrical safety standards, NEC, NFPA 70E, and lockout/tagout procedures while performing all maintenance activities. • Install conduit, pull wire, and perform electrical installations and modifications as required by facility and production needs. • Operate power tools, electrical test equipment, forklifts, scissor lifts, and boom lifts safely and effectively. • Perform electrical, pneumatic, mechanical, and hydraulic system repairs on production equipment and facility systems, including HVAC and refrigeration. • Observe equipment in operation to detect and diagnose potential problems before they cause unplanned downtime. • Dismantle devices to access, remove, repair, and replace defective or worn parts, and install, repair, or rebuild equipment as necessary. • Keep machinery, equipment, and the facility in good repair through reactive maintenance, scheduled preventive maintenance, and ongoing facility improvements. • Maintain and service plumbing, gas, air, drains, and wastewater systems, including PVC and copper airlines and general plumbing work such as removing, replacing, and unclogging toilets. • Repair and maintain AC voltage systems in the 180V480V range, including transformers and power supply systems for AC/DC motors. • Troubleshoot and resolve power supply issues, including blown fuses, wiring problems, breaker issues, and heavy industrial equipment faults. • Work extensively with control logic on equipment running Fanuc controls, reading logic and diagrams to troubleshoot and repair machine issues. • Support and repair a variety of industrial and CNC equipment, including NC equipment, press brakes, CNC brake presses, seam welders, shears, CNC turret punch presses, punch presses, spot welders, power rolls, hydro presses, resistance seam welders, expanders, and other heavy machinery. • Prioritize multiple maintenance activities, balancing approximately 70% of work on production equipment and machinery with about 30% on facility maintenance. • Contribute to continuous improvement of facility electrical systems and production equipment reliability through proactive maintenance and upgrade recommendations. Essential Skills
• Strong electrical repair and installation skill set in a manufacturing or industrial environment. • Hands-on experience with 440V and 480V power systems and 3-phase electrical equipment. • Proficiency with motor controls, VFDs, PLC-controlled equipment, control panels, relays, and contactors. • Experience with electrical equipment upgrades, replacements, and shutdown planning, including tie-ins and panel work. • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, one-line drawings, and technical construction drawings. • Knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, and lockout/tagout requirements, and ability to apply these standards in daily work. • Experience using multimeters, clamp meters, insulation resistance testers, and other electrical test equipment. • Ability to maintain records and work documentation in a CMMS environment. • Capability to install, troubleshoot, and repair hydraulics, pneumatics, and electronics in production and facility systems. • Skill in performing electrical, pneumatic, mechanical, and hydraulic repairs on facility equipment, HVAC, and refrigeration systems. • Experience working with AC voltage systems in the 180V480V range, including troubleshooting and installing transformers. • Control logic experience, particularly with equipment running Fanuc controls, including reading logic and diagrams to diagnose and repair issues. • Proficiency in troubleshooting power supply issues for AC/DC motors, including blown fuses, wiring faults, and breaker problems. • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple maintenance tasks independently while supporting both production and facility needs. • Competence in operating forklifts, scissor lifts, boom lifts, and common power tools in a maintenance environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications
• Experience in a manufacturing, aerospace, or machine shop setting working with industrial machinery and production equipment. • Experienced in maintaining and repairing hydraulic systems and machinery, including presses and forming equipment. • Ability to understand general construction concepts across plumbing, hydraulics, electrical, and pneumatics. • Experience maintaining and servicing plumbing, gas, air, drains, and wastewater systems, including PVC and copper airlines. • Familiarity with repairing and maintaining NC equipment, press brakes, CNC brake presses, seam welders, shears, CNC turret punch presses, punch presses, spot welders, power rolls, hydro presses, resistance seam welders, and expanders. • Experience performing panel preventive maintenance, including identifying hot spots, loose fuses, and other potential electrical issues using tools such as thermal or flir guns. • Ability to install conduit and pull wire for new equipment installations and facility upgrades. • Comfort working in a reactive maintenance environment while also performing preventive maintenance and facility improvement projects. • Strong troubleshooting mindset with the ability to perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions. • Effective communication skills to document work, share findings, and collaborate with production and facility teams. Hours and shifts follow standard manufacturing operations, with flexibility needed to support planned electrical shutdowns, equipment installations, and reactive maintenance as issues arise. Attire is consistent with a machine shop and maintenance setting, requiring practical work clothing and appropriate personal protective equipment to ensure safety while working with electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of El Cajon, CA. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $34.00 - $45.00/hr.
