Job Title: Auto Mechanic Apprentice / Mechanical Assembler TechnicianJob DescriptionThis role offers the opportunity to develop hands-on mechanical skills while working on light and small-duty vans and trucks in a close-knit, shop-based environment. You will assist with mechanical assembly, installation, and wiring tasks, contribute to building and outfitting vehicle interiors, and support general shop operations. The position is ideal for someone who is mechanically inclined, eager to learn, and willing to help wherever needed.Responsibilities
• Work on light and small-duty vans and trucks, including HVAC service trucks and delivery vans. • Perform mechanical assembly tasks on vehicles and related components. • Install and wire equipment and accessories in vans and trucks. • Build and install shelves and other interior structures in the shop and in vehicles. • Carry out occasional 12-volt electrical work as needed. • Use hand and power tools safely and effectively for assembly and installation work. • Read and follow blueprints, schematics, and work instructions for mechanical and electrical assembly. • Support general labor and production tasks in the shop as required. • Operate a sit-down forklift if qualified and when needed to move materials and equipment. • Consistently lift and move items weighing 50 pounds or more during daily tasks. • Maintain a positive, coachable attitude and assist team members wherever needed. • Demonstrate reliable attendance and punctuality for the scheduled shift. • Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area. Essential Skills
• At least 1 year of mechanical assembly experience in a shop, production, or similar environment. • At least 1 year of experience using hand and power tools for mechanical or assembly work. • Ability to consistently lift 50 pounds or more throughout the workday. • Strong, proven reliability with consistent attendance and punctuality. • Coachable attitude with a willingness to learn new skills and take direction. • Willingness to help wherever needed and support team objectives. • Basic understanding of mechanical principles and assembly processes. • Ability to follow blueprints, schematics, and written instructions for assembly and installation. • Comfort working with general labor and production tasks in a shop environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications
• Experience with 12-volt electrical systems and basic electrical work. • Installation and wiring of equipment or vehicle accessories. • Experience with electrical assembly and electrical wiring in a production or shop setting. • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and diagrams. • Experience operating a sit-down forklift in a shop or warehouse environment. • Familiarity with mechanical assembly in a truck or automotive setting. • Comfort working with HVAC trucks, delivery vans, and similar light-duty vehicles. • Interest in growing long-term with a small, close-knit team. Work takes place in a dedicated facility in Batavia that was purchased and set up for incoming trucks and shop operations. The environment is small and close-knit, currently consisting of a handful of on-site employees, with a total of approximately 18 employees across multiple locations nationwide. The role is primarily shop-based, working with hand and power tools, mechanical assembly equipment, and occasional forklift use. The setting is hands-on and physically active, requiring frequent lifting and movement of materials. The atmosphere emphasizes teamwork, safety, and collaboration in a compact, well-organized shop focused on outfitting and preparing vehicles Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Batavia, IL. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $18.00 - $24.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
