Job Title: Mechanical AssemblerJob DescriptionThis role focuses on completing refrigeration cases and sub-assemblies, including tanks, canopies, base frames, hardware kits, plenums, and other assigned components. You use hand and power tools to assemble parts according to detailed work orders and blueprints, ensuring each unit is built accurately and to quality standards as part of a collaborative assembly team. Responsibilities • Complete mechanical assembly of refrigeration cases and partial sub-assemblies such as tanks, canopies, base frames, hardware kits, plenums, and other assigned parts. • Read and comprehend work orders, including A orders, to understand assembly requirements, part specifications, and sequence of operations. • Identify all parts used on the assigned product line and determine their correct placement on the finished product. • Identify and correctly use power and hand tools required for the assigned product line. • Perform a wide range of assembly functions using hand and power tools, following established procedures and safety guidelines. • Use work order information to identify parts and part descriptions accurately. • Apply information related to material gauging and dimensioning to ensure precise assembly and fit of components. • Read and use rulers, tape measures, metal squares, and other measuring instruments to verify dimensions and tolerances. • Fasten parts together using bolts, screws, speed clips, rivets, and other fasteners to build complete units. • Work at different workstations as production needs require, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability on the assembly floor. • Collaborate as a member of the assembly team to build units from start to completion, supporting team goals and production targets. • Perform appropriate preventive maintenance on equipment and tooling to ensure reliable operation and reduce downtime. • Follow all safety, quality, and housekeeping standards while working in the plant environment. • Support continuous production by maintaining a steady workflow and promptly addressing basic equipment or tooling issues. Essential Skills • Prior mechanical assembly experience in a manufacturing or production environment. • Ability to read and comprehend work orders, including A orders, and follow written and verbal instructions. • Blueprint and drawing reading skills to understand assembly requirements and part orientation. • Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to understand how components fit and function together. • Proficiency using hand tools and power tools safely and effectively. • Ability to read and use measuring instruments such as rulers, tape measures, and metal squares. • Capability to perform assembly tasks that involve fastening parts with bolts, screws, speed clips, rivets, and other fasteners. • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and to bend, twist, and lift from awkward positions or in tight spaces. • Ability to push and pull cases ranging from approximately 200 to 800 pounds on a repetitive basis. • Ability to stand for extended periods, frequently walk, and regularly use hands to handle objects, tools, or controls. • Capacity to reach with hands and arms, and occasionally sit, stoop, and kneel as required by assembly tasks. • Effective communication skills to talk and hear in a busy production environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience in assembly line or light industrial production environments. • Background in mechanical assembly, electrical assembly, or general build and repair work. • Familiarity with production workflows and working at multiple stations based on demand. • General labor experience in a manufacturing setting. • Comfort working as part of a team with a focus on quality and meeting production expectations. Work EnvironmentThe role is based in a very clean plant environment at a modern production facility. You work on an assembly floor that uses a variety of hand and power tools, measuring instruments, and production equipment to build refrigeration cases and sub-assemblies. The position involves standing for most of the shift, frequent walking, and regular use of hands and arms to handle tools and parts, with occasional sitting, stooping, and kneeling. Work is performed at multiple stations as production needs change, in a team-oriented setting that prioritizes safety, cleanliness, and consistent output. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Richmond, VA. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.50 - $20.50/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
