Shop LaborerJob DescriptionThis role supports a medium-size manufacturing facility that produces overhead cranes and performs a variety of custom job shop work. As a shop laborer, you assist multiple departments with general operations and material handling, working with cranes, slings, hooks, forklifts, and other tools and equipment. The position is physically active and requires the ability to lift up to 75 pounds, stand, crouch, twist, and learn safe operation of shop machinery and material handling systems.Responsibilities
• Assist with general shop operations across the Rail, Fabrication, Electrification, and Maintenance departments, adapting to workload demands and shifting priorities. • Follow instructions and directions from supervisors and experienced employees to complete assigned tasks safely and efficiently. • Perform material handling throughout the shop using overhead cranes, slings, hooks, and related lifting equipment. • Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment, or learn to do so under guidance. • Use hand tools, power tools, and basic machinery to support fabrication, production, and maintenance activities. • Assist with tasks such as sanding, grinding, deburring, sheet metal handling, and other mechanical preparation work. • Support sandblasting and spray gun operations as directed, including surface preparation and finishing tasks. • Help with general construction-related duties in the shop environment, which may include concrete, drywall, and solar-related project support. • Maintain a clean and organized work area, including proper storage of tools, equipment, and materials. • Follow all safety procedures, including correct use of personal protective equipment and adherence to shop safety guidelines. • Physically perform job tasks that require lifting up to 75 pounds, crouching, standing for extended periods, twisting, and moving materials around the facility. Essential Skills
• Manufacturing experience in a shop, production, or industrial environment. • Ability to safely lift up to 75 pounds and perform frequent standing, crouching, twisting, and other physical movements. • Basic mechanical aptitude and comfort working with hand tools and power tools. • Ability to learn and follow detailed instructions from supervisors and experienced team members. • Willingness to learn operation of cranes, slings, hooks, forklifts, and other material handling equipment. • Commitment to following safety procedures and using required personal protective equipment. . Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Glenwood, MN. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $18.00 - $23.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
