Job Title: Production SupervisorJob DescriptionThe Production Supervisor leads daily manufacturing operations in a high-volume engine assembly and machining environment. This role focuses on driving safety, quality, productivity, and cost performance while building and sustaining high-performing teams. The supervisor oversees production activities, quality inspections, problem-solving, and built-in quality initiatives, and manages change and ambiguity in a fast-paced, unionized setting.Responsibilities
• Lead and manage daily manufacturing operations for engine assembly and machining, adjusting plans as needed to meet production requirements. • Drive safety, quality, productivity, cost, and schedule performance with a strong focus on SPQRCE metrics. • Build, lead, and sustain high-performing teams, including training, developing, and evaluating hourly team members. • Motivate employees using standardized work methods and ensure team members receive adequate Job Instruction Training (JIT). • Coach, counsel, and mentor other Group Leaders to strengthen leadership capability across the operation. • Lead and support Global Manufacturing Systems (GMS) processes and serve as a resource for launch and pilot activities. • Meet or exceed production schedules, cost targets, and quality objectives in a high-volume manufacturing environment. • Apply lean and synchronous manufacturing principles to improve processes and reduce variation. • Implement systems and corrective actions that prevent recurrence of known issues and support continuous improvement. • Maintain awareness of quality standards and expectations and ensure all processes meet required quality requirements. • Understand and consistently administer National and Local UAW Agreements to support a compliant, respectful work environment. • Promote and enforce safe work practices, including safety, ergonomics, and housekeeping, and maintain a clean, organized, hazard-free workplace. • Ensure effective use of personnel, materials, and equipment to optimize throughput and efficiency. • Support continuous improvement in material flow and supply chain efficiency to maintain on-time delivery. • Troubleshoot operational issues in production, quality, and materials flow and implement timely corrective actions. • Oversee quality inspections and built-in quality initiatives, including DFSS/Red X methodologies where applicable. • Manage change and ambiguity in a fast-paced environment while maintaining clear communication and accountability. • Ensure accurate timekeeping and compliance with labor agreements and company policies. Essential Skills
• High school diploma or equivalent; strong preference for candidates who hold or are pursuing a bachelors degree. • At least 2 years of experience leading teams of approximately 20 or more employees in a manufacturing, production, or supply chain environment. • Demonstrated experience supervising hourly employees, including the ability to lead, train, develop, and evaluate team members. • Experience working in a unionized environment, ideally with UAW-represented employees, and leading union teams. • Strong working knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and variation reduction techniques. • Proven ability to meet production schedules, cost targets, and quality requirements in a high-volume setting. • Ability to promote and enforce safe work practices, including safety, ergonomics, and housekeeping standards. • Leadership experience in quality, production, or materials/supply chain operations. • Basic computer skills, including use of email, word processing, and typing for documentation and communication. • Willingness and ability to work rotating shifts, weekends, and substantial overtime as required by a 24/7 operation. • Strong supervision and leadership capabilities, including conflict resolution and performance management. • Ability to manage change and ambiguity while maintaining team focus and accountability. • Associate or bachelors degree in a relevant field is highly valued and may be required for certain direct-hire paths. • Experience in automotive manufacturing or other high-volume production environments. • Familiarity with Global Manufacturing Systems (GMS) or similar manufacturing operating systems. • Prior experience supporting launch or pilot production activities in a manufacturing setting. • Experience in leadership development, project scheduling, process improvement, and quality control. • Experience with built-in quality initiatives and methodologies such as DFSS and Red X. • Knowledge of timekeeping systems and labor reporting tools. • Experience with material flow and supply chain efficiency improvements. • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a unionized environment. • Exposure to synchronous manufacturing and continuous improvement practices. Core activities include engine assembly, engine block machining, piston installation, and rigorous quality checks, working with components sourced from specialized casting plants. The environment emphasizes continuous improvement, strict safety standards, built-in quality, and on-time delivery to quality and cost targets. Operations run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and the supervisor must be open to working any shift, including 2nd shift (approximately 2:00 p.m.10:00 p.m.) and 3rd shift (approximately 10:00 p.m.6:00 a.m.), with the expectation of significant overtime, working 67 days per week and arriving 30 minutes before the shift starts. The workplace is clean, organized, and focused on ergonomics and housekeeping, with a professional manufacturing dress code appropriate for a safety-conscious production environment Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Flint, MI. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $30.00 - $38.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
