About this role

Job Title: Mechanical & Robotics TechnicianJob DescriptionThe Mechanical & Robotics Technician supports the operations maintenance team by installing, maintaining, and repairing material handling equipment, pneumatic systems, and automated packaging and distribution equipment within a large fulfillment facility. In this role, you diagnose electrical and mechanical issues, perform preventive and predictive maintenance, and help ensure that automation systems run safely and efficiently. You also have the opportunity to mentor junior technicians, share best practices, and contribute to a culture of continuous learning and improvement. Responsibilities • Promote a safe working environment by consistently following all safety procedures and standards. • Perform preventive maintenance routines on material handling and automation equipment and document all work accurately. • Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical problems related to material handling equipment, including belts, motors, photo-eyes, relays, and other components. • Install, maintain, and repair automated packaging and distribution equipment and associated pneumatic systems. • Conduct predictive maintenance procedures to identify potential equipment issues before they result in downtime. • Maintain a positive and collaborative working relationship across the operations facility and with cross-functional teams. • Track, manage, and store department inventory, parts, and tools to support efficient maintenance operations. • Use a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to log work orders, track maintenance activities, and update equipment records. • Mentor junior technicians by sharing technical knowledge, guiding troubleshooting efforts, and supporting their skill development. • Apply knowledge of material handling equipment safety standards in accordance with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) guidelines and safety regulations. • Read and interpret blueprints and electrical schematics to diagnose issues and plan repairs or installations. • Troubleshoot basic input and output functions in electromechanical and robotic systems. • Support project work and small improvement initiatives related to equipment upgrades, modifications, or reliability enhancements. • Work flexible schedules, shifts, and areas, including weekends, nights, and holidays, as required by facility operations. • Move, lift, and carry parts and tools weighing up to 49 pounds, and stand or walk for shifts lasting up to 12 hours, with or without reasonable accommodation. Essential Skills • High school diploma or equivalent. • Ability to work flexible schedules, shifts, and areas, including weekends, nights, and holidays. • At least 1 year of experience with PC competency, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. • Ability to move, lift, and carry parts and tools weighing up to 49 pounds and stand or walk for shifts up to 12 hours, with or without reasonable accommodation. • Capability to perform repetitive bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching, twisting, sitting, standing, and walking. • Strong eye/hand coordination and manual dexterity, including use of foot pedals and repetitive wrist motion. • Comfort working in environments that may include small spaces, dust, fumes or odors, hot and cold temperatures, noise, vibration, and wet or uneven surfaces. • Basic understanding of maintenance practices and procedures. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Associates degree or higher from a vocational school or college with a focus in the mechanical or electrical field. • 2 years of experience with automated conveyor systems and controls. • 2 years of experience in the repair of material handling equipment. • 2 years of experience conducting predictive and preventive maintenance procedures. • 1 year of experience in metal and wood fabrication. • 1 year of experience reading blueprints and electrical schematics. • 1 year of knowledge in electrical and electronic principles. • Experience working with material handling equipment safety standards in accordance with OEM and safety guidelines. • Experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). • Experience with robotic or electromechanical operation and maintenance. • Ability to troubleshoot basic input and output functions in automated systems. • Project management experience related to maintenance or facility improvement initiatives. Work EnvironmentThis role is based in a large operations facility that houses automated packaging, distribution, and material handling systems. You work around conveyor systems, motors, photo-eyes, relays, pneumatic equipment, and robotic or electromechanical machinery, using tools, parts, and a Computerized Maintenance Management System to perform your duties. Shifts may last up to 12 hours, and schedules can include weekends, nights, and holidays, with occasional travel up to approximately 20%. The physical environment can involve small spaces, dust, fumes or odors, hot and cold temperatures both inside and outside, noise, vibration, standing on concrete floors for extended periods, and wet or uneven surfaces. The role requires frequent bending, crouching, kneeling, reaching, twisting, and walking, as well as lifting items that typically weigh around 20 pounds and occasionally up to 49 pounds. Appropriate work attire is expected to support safety and comfort in an industrial and maintenance-focused setting. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Toronto, ON. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $28.25 - $28.25/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
