Job Title: Pump MechanicJob DescriptionThe Pump Mechanic performs high-quality repairs, testing, and reconfigurations on pumps and a variety of rotating equipment, with a strong focus on water market products. This role involves both shop and field work, using mechanical expertise to tear down, inspect, troubleshoot, and restore equipment to optimal performance while following established safety, quality, and documentation standards. Responsibilities • Perform pump and rotating equipment repair, including teardowns, inspections, troubleshooting, voltage conversions, impeller trims and change-outs, and mechanical repairs on pumps, rotating equipment, and related products in the shop and in the field. • Read and interpret equipment manuals, technical drawings, and work orders to plan and execute required maintenance and associated services accurately. • Create thorough inspection and test reports, documenting findings, work performed, and test results in a clear and professional manner. • Use pneumatic, power, and hand tools proficiently to perform mechanical assembly, disassembly, and repair tasks. • Assist with removals, installations, troubleshooting, repairs, and services on pumps and rotating equipment at customer sites when required. • Maintain accurate material, parts, and labor records for all jobs to support effective project fulfillment and cost control. • Deliver work that meets established quality standards while optimizing material usage and remaining mindful of cost without sacrificing quality. • Interface professionally with internal colleagues, other departments, supply partners, and customers as required, both in the shop and in the field. • Organize and maintain a safe, clean, and well-ordered work area by applying good housekeeping practices. • Identify and suggest improvements to internal processes, demonstrating initiative and a continuous improvement mindset. • Use proper protective safety equipment at all times and follow company policies, procedures, and safety guidelines. • Properly and safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, cranes, and other material-handling equipment as required for shop and field work. • Participate in on-site and off-site training, implement newly acquired skills, and help train colleagues to share knowledge and best practices. • Manage deadlines and job priorities effectively, ensuring that project goals and performance targets are understood, communicated, and achieved. • Demonstrate reliable attendance and effective time management for day-to-day operations in adherence to job requirements and established standards. • Handle pressure and conflict in a positive and professional manner, maintaining self-confidence and a constructive attitude. • Apply deductive reasoning and general rules to specific mechanical problems to arrive at logical and sensible solutions. • Perform other duties as assigned to support shop operations and customer needs. Essential Skills • Demonstrated experience with mechanical assembly, pump assembly, and rotating equipment repair and service. • Ability to read and comprehend technical documentation, including equipment manuals, schematics, and engineering drawings. • Proficient use of pneumatic, power, and hand tools for mechanical repair and assembly tasks. • Capability to perform high-quality pump repairs, testing, and reconfigurations on water market pumps and other rotating equipment. • Strong communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with colleagues, supply partners, and customers in both shop and field environments. • Ability to stand for extended periods and frequently lift up to 50 pounds, with occasional work at a variety of locations for field jobs. • Awareness of and adherence to safety procedures when working around hazardous chemicals or materials and in varying environmental conditions. • Effective project fulfillment skills, including managing deadlines, identifying stakeholders, and achieving job and performance goals. • Reliable time management and attendance, with the ability to prioritize tasks in line with job requirements and shop standards. • Professionalism in dealing with pressure and conflict, demonstrating a positive attitude and productive use of time. • Deductive reasoning skills to apply general mechanical principles to specific problems and produce logical solutions. • Mechanical aptitude, including knowledge of metric and imperial measurement systems and the ability to perform conversions between them. • Basic computer skills with working familiarity in MS Office products, particularly Word and Excel. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Willingness and ability to receive, retain, and apply training on various hand tools and all types of equipment, especially water market pumps. • Experience working in both shop and field service environments on pumps and rotating equipment. • Comfort working in environments where exposure to hazardous chemicals or varying site conditions may occur, with strict adherence to corresponding safety procedures. • Ability to collaborate with colleagues and contribute to a positive team environment, including training and supporting others. • Initiative to identify process improvements and participate in continuous improvement activities. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Henrico, VA. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $28.00 - $30.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
