Job Title: Low Voltage TechnicianJob DescriptionThe Low Voltage Technician programs, tests, repairs, and services a variety of non-routine low voltage systems and equipment, including security, fire alarm and life safety, and building automation systems. This role serves as a key technical interface for customers, providing expert support, training, and guidance to maximize customer satisfaction. The technician operates and commissions new systems, analyzes performance, identifies and resolves malfunctions, and writes non-routine programs for complex systems while handling most technical aspects of multiple projects with varying timelines and budgets. Responsibilities • Program, test, repair, and service a variety of low voltage systems and equipment, including security, fire alarm and life safety, and building automation systems. • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, manuals, wiring diagrams, and other specifications to determine installation and service procedures. • Use knowledge of electronics and standard test instruments, along with hand and power tools, to diagnose issues and repair equipment. • Operate systems to demonstrate equipment functionality, commission new systems, analyze performance, and identify malfunctions. • Develop and write non-routine programs and create system graphics to support system functionality and customer requirements. • Act as the customers best service provider at all times, ensuring the organization remains the first choice for service and technical support. • Consult with engineering personnel to resolve unusual problems in system operation, maintenance, and warranty work. • Execute most technical aspects of multiple projects, including programming, graphics development, start-up, certification testing, customer training, close-out documentation, and ongoing technical support. • Identify potential project risks, communicate them to appropriate stakeholders, and assist in developing and implementing strategies to minimize impact and control deviations from estimated costs and deadlines. • Work closely with Project Managers and Operations Managers to coordinate specific projects, make recommendations regarding quality of work, and suggest changes in scope when appropriate. • Continuously look for ways to improve customer satisfaction through enhanced service delivery, installation techniques, and product performance. • Act as a mentor to less experienced staff, sharing technical knowledge, skills, and experience, and may supervise workers in testing, tuning, and adjusting equipment for optimum performance. • Perform troubleshooting on low voltage systems, including pulling wire, terminating connections, and resolving installation and operational issues. • Maintain accurate and complete documentation related to project close-out, system configuration, and customer training. • Perform other duties and responsibilities as requested to support the successful delivery of projects and services. Essential Skills • Exceptional customer focus with the ability to work under pressure and proactively seek to meet customer needs and expectations. • Solid technical skills and experience with fire alarm systems and/or electronic security systems. • Strong programming skills with a proven ability to troubleshoot problems and develop effective solutions. • Ability to work as a self-starter and perform effectively with minimal supervision. • Solid mechanical and electrical aptitude, including proficiency with hand and power tools such as drills, screwdrivers, wire strippers, hacksaws, and crimpers. • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams. • Strong math skills, including the ability to perform calculations such as area, velocity, resistance, and voltage where required. • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills for effective interaction with customers, colleagues, and engineering personnel. • Solid organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and manage varying timelines and budgets. • Advanced computer skills, including familiarity with MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel) and proficiency in other relevant software applications. • Valid drivers license with a clean driving record. • Ability to travel locally to jobsites on a regular basis, with minimal overnight travel as needed. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience working with low voltage systems in construction, commercial, institutional, or industrial environments. • Hands-on experience with troubleshooting, installation, pulling wire, and performing terminations on low voltage systems. • Ability to advise management on customer satisfaction, product performance, installation techniques, standards, and potential product improvements. • Experience coordinating with project and operations teams to align technical work with project scope, budget, and schedule. • Capability to identify project risks and contribute to risk mitigation and cost control strategies. • Experience mentoring or supervising less experienced technicians in testing, tuning, and adjusting equipment. • Comfort working in diverse facilities such as hospitals, schools, commercial buildings, and industrial sites. Dress and presentation should be appropriate for professional interaction with customers and safe operation in construction and industrial settings. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of North Charleston, SC. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $25.00 - $35.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
