We are looking for an enthusiasticNIPE Lead Midwifeto lead and develop our NIPE service at Ashford and St Peter's Hospitals (ASPH). As the Trust's NIPE subject matter expert, you will provide clinical leadership, oversee screening pathways and service risks, and represent the Trust at regional and national forums, working collaboratively with internal and external partners to drive high-quality practice and improve outcomes for babies and families.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for providing a service that ensures that all babies born at Ashford and St Peters NHS Trust or at home have a Newborn Infant Physical Examination (NIPE) undertaken within 72 hours of birth and that we are compliant with national Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).The postholder will carry out daily NIPE clinics within the hospital setting and record the outcomes as per local requirements. The post holder will undertake NIPE clinics and roster the gaps to ensure a 7 days a week service is in operation (including bank holidays). The post holder will facilitate the development of all staff through teaching, update days and empowerment.

The post holder will be a registered Midwife who will be required to co-ordinate the NIPE service at Ashford & St Peters NHS Trust in line with the National Screening standards.
The NIPE lead midwife will be responsible for the management and delivery of the NIPE programme and will provide clinical expertise and support in all clinical areas.
The NIPE lead will oversee all NIPE qualified midwives in relation to the NIPE screening programme.
The NIPE midwife will monitor the overall performance against the S4N NIPE programme and will maintain an oversight of the programme, ensuring a failsafe is in place for all babies born at this unit or returning to our catchment area. The NIPE lead midwife will ensure that appropriate monitoring and reporting of KPI data is maintained to inform and update the National Screening Programme database as required identifying gaps and creating appropriate action plans.
The midwife will be required to participate in all relevant screening meetings held within the division and across the MDT.
The post holder may be asked to work throughout the maternity unit in areas other than the Postnatal ward/NIPE clinic as required to support staff and service delivery.
Develop an orientation programmes with CPE which familiarise new members of staff with the organisational and clinical demands of the unit and teams.
Organise and facilitate NIPE refresher and update study days for Midwives and ANNPs, with support from the CPE team and a named Paediatric Consultant. Maintain a register of competence to ensure all staff undertaking NIPE examinations remain compliant with required training and competency standards..
Monitor mandatory training requirements of NIPE trained midwives including any E-learning packages.
Ensure the trust is maintaining the national standards/frameworks in relation to the NIPE examination & referrals. The lead midwife will be responsible for all standards of NIPE screening set by the National Screening committee and will ensure it is adhered to and maintained.
Facilitate the development of all staff including junior medical staff and Midwives undertaking the NIPE course through teaching, assessing and empowerment.
Ensure that all staff undertaking NIPE have access to the SN4 system, updating access and passwords as required.
Maintain and utilise stores and equipment appropriately alongside communicating when equipment faults or the lack of available resources may compromise the quality of care.
