St Leonard's Hospice is seeking a motivated and skilled Clinical Practice Facilitator to take a lead role in designing, delivering and embedding high quality clinical education within our hospices clinical services. This is a key role in ensuring our clinical teams are equipped with the knowledge, skills and confidence to deliver outstanding palliative and end of life care.

This is a part-time position working 30 hours per week normally between office hours, Monday to Friday however there is an expectation that the successful candidate will undertake clinical shifts as required to maintain clinical credibility and competence.

Main duties of the job

Working under the direction of the Head of Patient Safety & Learning, the Clinical Practice Facilitator will:

Lead on an evidence-based clinical education programme through collaborative working with key stakeholders and assist in identifying learning needs to target education interventions.Support a range of learners through delivering and facilitating engaging teaching sessions and support our clinical leads and champions to deliver and facilitate their own sessions.Support staff to development clinical competence and confidence by championing reflective practice, clinical supervision and learning from incidents into everyday clinical work.

Be a qualified Registered Nurse and have extensive experience of caring for people at the end of life in a healthcare settingHave experience in clinical education, supervision and assessment of staff and learnersHave strong communication, organisation and facilitation skills and be able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team

Job description Job responsibilities

Take a lead role in designing, delivering and embedding high quality clinical education within our Hospices clinical services to ensure we have a workforce who are appropriately skilled and engaged to safely and effectively deliver care.

The Clinical Practice Facilitator will coordinate the delivery of a clinical education and training work plan that will allow the Hospice to deliver quality patient centred services now and, in the future and position us as a centre of excellence for specialist palliative care. They will support a range of learners (new employees, returners, student placements, preceptees, experienced clinicians), adapting teaching approaches to meet learner needs.

Main duties and responsibilities

Professional

1. Work alongside the clinical teams to build an understanding of the clinical education and development requirements. Assist in identifying needs using incident data, audits, feedback and service priorities.

2. Engage with external professional networks to understand changes to legislation, policy & practice and their impact on the clinical education/development requirements.

3. Lead on the design, implementation and evaluation of a structured, evidence based clinical education programme that meets the needs of the organisation and satisfies our regulatory and legal compliance obligations. Promote an innovative approach to learning such as blended and workplace-based education.

4. Monitor and report on training compliance, contributing to governance processes and audits.

5. Set the standard for education and training delivery in the Hospice, coaching and supporting clinical leads/clinical champions to deliver training as SMEs and pass on their knowledge and expertise.

6. Directly deliver and facilitate engaging teaching sessions as required across the organisation including simulation, case-based learning and practical skills training.

7. Champion reflective practice, clinical supervision and learning from incidents into everyday practice, promoting a just learning culture.

8. Promote collaboration with other organisations (Hospices, Health and social care, charitable sector and education) to share best practices and reduce inefficiencies, inequity and duplication in the clinical education.

9. Work closely with the wider Workforce, Education, Learning and Development (WELD) team to ensure that clinical education and development leverages learning technologies, is accessible, value adding and evolves in line with the changing landscape and best practices in adult learning.

10. Chair the Clinical Education, Training and Development group and attend relevant forums related to governance and quality to support the development of the education and development plan.

11. Maintain clinical knowledge, competence and practice. Be available and flexible to work clinically across services to support education and clinical needs and to maintain clinical competence.

Qualifications Essential

Registered Nurse with current NMC registration

Teaching/assessing qualification

IT Essential

Good IT Skills Knowledge of Microsoft applications (word, excel, PowerPoint, outlook, teams)

Experience of working with learning management systems Experience of using OneDrive and SharePoint

Post registration experience in palliative and end of life care Experience in clinical education, supervision and assessment of staff and learners
