St Leonard's Hospice is looking for a new Senior Sister/ Charge Nurse to join the Inpatient Unit to support the clinical team to deliver excellent care to our patients, placing them at the heart of what we do.
This is a full-time position working 37.5 hours per week, 5 days over 7, Monday to Friday and be a part of the clinical on-call rota.

Job description Job responsibilities
The Senior Sister/Charge Nurse will be responsible for professional day to day clinical leadership and operational management of the In Patient Unit. Ensuring high quality, responsive, safe, efficient and compassionate care. Placing the patient at the centre of all that we do.
You will provide clinical leadership and management support to create and maintain a positive culture, with a focus on continuous improvement. Providing visionary and visible leadership and guidance to all the team.
Main duties and responsibilities
Professional
1. Maintain a high profile across the In Patient Unit to role model expertise in the clinical management of patients with complex needs. Delivering hands on patient care as needed.
2. Ensure the patient/loved ones voice is heard providing or arranging advocacy as required.
3. Act as first point of contact in the event of a complaint or feedback about patent and loved ones experiences on the ward.
4. Maintain high standards of palliative care are delivered holistically to patients and their loved ones within a multi-disciplinary team approach.
5. Assess, plan and evaluate nursing care, maintaining accurate, legible documentation and communicating necessary information to all team members.
6. Participate fully in the setting, implementation and monitoring of formal standards of practice and to be responsible for Clinical Governance and auditing for the service to ensure robust evidence of how we are meeting the CQC requirements, NICE guidelines etc.
7. Collaborate with the multi-disciplinary teams with bed management, prioritising patients on the waiting list for admission and have a responsibility for the allocation of beds and timeliness of patient flow.
Managerial
1. Act as a leader of change and innovation. Provide leadership for the service which consists of nurses, health care assistants, allied health professionals and volunteers.
2. As a senior lead within the Hospice, be part of the clinical senior leadership team covering all core activities and possibly be deployed across all clinical teams to suit business needs.
3. Ensure the service is covered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and is maintained at the correct establishment and appropriate skill mix.
4. Develop a team which is motivated, works in line with organisational values and has clear direction.
5. Identify and promote good practices in palliative care with the development and regular review of operational policies and procedures.
6. Ensure optimum use of resources within the IPU budget.
7. Assist in the recruitment, selection, development of the team and to supervise the induction of new staff within the Inpatient Unit service.
8. Take the lead with the clinical audit process liaising closely with the Deputy Director of Clinical Services and other members of the multi-disciplinary team to achieve this.
9. Take responsibility for safe custody and administration of drugs in accordance with Hospice procedures and the law, reporting errors without delay.
10. Participate in and manage the Clinical on Call rota across clinical services.
11. Work closely with housekeeping and maintenance teams to ensure a high standard of service to the ward area.
12. Teach as required on internal/external study days/courses.
