An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Consultant Urologist at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. This is a new post in an expanding team. We are looking to recruit a consultant with a special interest in superficial bladder cancer and core urology. The successful candidate will become part of a dedicated and successful team which has an excellent track record in clinical service delivery and both regional and national teaching & training. In addition, the Foundation Trust has Cancer Centre status and serves the patients of Bradford, Airedale, Calderdale and Huddersfield for radical pelvic surgery.
This is an exciting time to join the Trust as we are in the process of opening the brand new state-of-the-art Day Case Unit at St Lukes Hospital to deliver planned surgery. This will provide additional resilience to the NHS in Bradford and help future-proof this service for local patients. It will help tackle local health inequalities while promoting the best outcomes for patients and providing new employment opportunities for local people.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will work closely with the current team of uro-oncologists to deliver services at Bradford Royal Infirmary and the new day unit based at nearby St Lukes Hospital.
The successful applicant will be a team player who is willing to be flexible and develop skills with other team members. In addition, we are looking for a surgeon who will contribute to audit, participate in and initiate research and who will be actively involved in clinical governance, administration and other management tasks. Alongside these aspects, the appointee will participate in the training of medical students and junior doctors.
The post holder will participate in a 1 in 10 midweek and weekend on-call rota with 24 hour support provided by the 6 middle grades.

The Urology department at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHSFT is forward thinking, friendly, enthusiastic and cohesive. The department has one of the largest output of robot-assisted procedures in the North of England. Complex endourological and laparoscopic procedures are offered as well. The female and reconstructive urology team works alongside these other sub-specialties to provide a comprehensive service.
BTHFT is a specialist cancer centre for West of WestYorkshire. The current Uro-oncology consultants are delivering roboticpelvic cancer. The new consultant will be working alongside the team and will be involved with the diagnostic pathways for prostate cancer through the PFC and trans perineal biopsy service. The consultant will be also overseeing the haematuria service based at Westwood park. The consultant will develop and lead the day case TURBT and TULA services for urothelial cancers of the bladder. The new day case unit at St Lukes Hospital is due to open soon and the consultant will be developing these services on the new site. The consultant will be the lead for high grade bladder cancers overseeing those on BCG treatment. Any research opportunities that may arise in these fields will also be undertaken by the consultant. The consultant will be attending the Bradford section of the MDT meetings on Monday afternoon at BTHFT
As indicated above, the on call rota is 1:10, with weeks and weekends typically separated. Weekday on call is aligned with the acute week timetable.
There is a weekly Consultants meeting and monthly meetings with managerial colleagues. Registrar on call cover is 24 hours per day, seven days per week
