About this role

Job summary

As part of South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trusts continued commitment to improving the safety of patients and the effective utilisation of resources, we have an exciting opportunity for an Advanced Practitioner Pharmacist in the Division of Surgery. You will be required to lead and co-ordinate the professional clinical input into the delivery and development of services in the designated directorates. You will be expected to work closely with Directorate Lead Pharmacists and Advanced Practitioners within the Division in supporting the wider pharmacy team including the delivery of care from pre-assessment clinics, admission for elective and non-elective cases, through the inpatient stay and beyond into primary care.

Main duties of the job

You will be able to provide evidence of effective service delivery at a specialist pharmacist level, post-graduate study to Diploma level and well-developed clinical pharmacy skills with an independent prescribing qualification and evidence of advanced clinical skills development. The ability to support and mentor junior pharmacists and undertake clinical supervision will be key skills. The Pharmacy Service operates a seven-day clinical service with routine support of both junior pharmacists and integrated medicines management technicians.

South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust has invested in modern pharmaceutical facilities including full electronic prescribing with decision support, automated dispensaries and extensive seven-day clinical services to enhance the patients experience of care by improving the quality, safety and effectiveness of their medicines utilisation. As part of this investment our nationally-recognised pharmacist-led Integrated Medicines Management Scheme has been expanded to all acute areas. Your role will be to lead and co-ordinate the professional clinical and pharmaceutical input for this patient group with a focus on medicines optimisation, safe and secure utilisation of medicines and minimising the risk of inappropriate use.

Personal Qualities Essential

Able to meet deadlines.

Qualifications Essential

Masters Degree in Pharmacy. Postgraduate Study to Diploma level or equivalent experience. MRPharmS. Prescribing qualification. Advanced Clinical Skills. Evidence of CPD in-line with requirements of GPhC. Can demonstrate management of resources, delivery of objectives in-line with national priorities, participation in policy development and leadership of a team.

Experience Essential

Evidence of effective service delivery of direct patient care at specialist practice level. Close and effective working with medical staff. Leadership of audit projects and or research. Clinical mentoring or Pre-registration tutor. Evidence of delivering successful change programmes.

Desirable

Research and evidence of publications. Teaching at higher education level.

Skills Essential

Clinical Pharmacy practice and innovation. Good written & verbal communication skills. Evidence of ability to communicate with others, lead projects gaining the co-operation of others. Evidence of ability to inspire others through delivery of team objectives. Financial management. HR Management skills.

Desirable

Time-management skills.
