We're looking for a Consultants Psychiatrist to join our team of life savers and life changers who share our values to help us provide high quality care for the patients, carers, families and communities we serve. We specialise in NHS mental health and learning disability services and we're proud to be the difference improving lives every day.

This is an exciting opportunity to join Sheffield's Perinatal Mental Health Service providing specialist assessment and treatment to women and birthing people, and their families, living in Sheffield and struggling with their mental health or emotional wellbeing around the time of having a baby. PNMH is a growing specialist service for women/birthing people with mental health problems around the time of having a baby, and their families. The Five-Year Forward View saw the first national programme of much needed investment in this specialism, and the NHS LTP builds on those foundations, defining service development ambitions that stretch into 2025 and beyond. This role will form a central part of the service's leadership team who are collectively responsible for delivery on the requirements and ambitions for the service. Supporting the governance and development of the service will be a core function of the role. We are looking for a consultant who meets the Trusts expectations around values, behaviors, and standards and who thrives when leading through uncertainty.

Main duties of the job

The below is subject to requirements of the individual service(s) the successful applicant will be working within.

Provide compassionate medical leadership in the Perinatal Mental Health Service, including frequent/regular meetings with clinical staff to plan/co-ordinate clinical workload.

Attendance and leadership of MDT meetings.

Attendance and leadership in team governance & service development processes.

Contribution to collaborative care and risk management planning processes for relevant patients' management, including regular liaison with practitioners within and outside of the service.

Provision of trauma informed, evidence based, specialist perinatal medical/psychiatric assessments and reviews, to inform care planning and risk assessment/management, by regular clinic sessions & flexible use of clinical time.

Formulation and delivery of appropriate, evidence based pharmacological and psychological interventions, sharing evidence in an accessible way with patients to support their choice of treatment, holding in balance the unique features and risks of the perinatal period.

This is a full time 10PA (sessions) posting with our Perinatal Mental Health Service on a permanent contract basis.

The postholder will be required to work with the Perinatal Mental Health (PNMH) Services multidisciplinary team, offering team and clinical leadership and facilitation to deliver safe and effective assessment and treatment plans for women and birthing people in the perinatal period, and their families. Our service, including our patient and staff population, is diverse, and we are looking for someone passionate about meeting the needs of the population of Sheffield. Along with the clinical and managerial leads, you will take oversight of the day-to-day clinical demands of the service, prioritising and responding to urgent and emergency work as well as conducting planned work with the team and patients.

The postholder will be responsible for helping the multi-disciplinary teams in further developing evidence based, trauma-informed assessment and treatment pathways to offer women/birthing people and their families. We operate from biopsychosocial, and attachment orientated frameworks of understanding and medical leadership is a vital component of our service. Additionally, the successful candidate may wish to develop a role within medical leadership, medical education, quality improvement, research or a special clinical interest and such development would be supported by the Trust and be negotiated with the individual candidate.

The postholder will be expected to undertake the ordinary administration duties of the post including participation in professional audit, business planning and related activities. A contribution to the management and strategic direction of the service is seen as essential. There are opportunities for professional development in medical management.

Successful applicants will have office accommodation, with IT support for e-mail, internet access and secretarial support. The post holder will be issued with all required IT equipment including a laptop and mobile phone as well as any reasonable adjustments that may be required.

Person Specification

Knowledge and Skills Essential

Collaborative, inclusive and service user focused approach to assessment and formulation / diagnosis in a community setting. Clear, evidence-based approach to risk assessment & management. Creative and collaborative approach to planning and delivering interventions and care plans. Ability to appraise complex, multi-faceted information from various sources and bring together into a shared, coherent understanding. Strong, compassionate leadership skills Ability to supervise and proactively lead junior staff. Ability to interpret published research and to apply research findings to clinical practice. Trauma informed clinical approach.

Desirable

Knowledge of best practice and evidence relating to General Adult Psychiatry. Experience of involvement in service development. Leadership training / knowledge. Performance / governance focused and interested. Practical experience of research. Aligned to the Trust's mission and committed to its values.

Training and Qualifications Essential

MBBS or equivalent medical qualification. Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practice. inclusion on the Specialist Register or eligibility for inclusion. Certificate of Completion of Training in General Adult Psychiatry (Higher trainees should be within six months of attainment at the time of the interview) or CESR equivalent. Section 12 (2) MHA 1983 approved. Approved Clinician (AC) status / eligibility to be on the AC register.

Desirable

MRCPsych or equivalent. MD, Other professional qualification (e.g. MSc) Coaching Training Leadership Training

Experience Essential

Experience in General Adult Psychiatry including working within a community and/or inpatient services. Experience in teaching undergraduates and postgraduates. Evidence of experience in medical audit and understanding of principles of clinical governance Experience of leading a multi-disciplinary team.

Desirable

Experience as a Consultant Psychiatrist in a community or inpatient mental health team. Experience leading a community mental health service. Teaching/presentation experience (e.g., conference presentation, EBM, research experience) to a range of audiences. Experience networking and building collaborative working relationships across a range of stakeholders / other clinical specialisms to improve patient care pathways and experience.
