Job summary
This Junior Clinical Fellow (JCF) post has been designed to provide liver clinical training after the Foundation years with the aim of increasing clinical exposure to medicine. It would be suitable for trainees in General Internal Medicine who are considering a career in Gastroenterology or Hepatology.
The JCF will be rotated through Liver medicine firms and will be exposed to a wide variety of advanced clinical procedures, in a busy tertiary hospital. This post offers numerous opportunities to develop clinically as well as to perform research and implement quality improvement projects where desired.
During the year the main focuses of the JCF will be to work in the Liver Unit delivering a high-quality service. He or she will work with the team to participate in the day to day running of the wards and to be involved in outpatient clinics. He or she will be expected to conduct audits and participate in learning opportunities to develop the individual to a more senior level by the end of the rotations. Support will be given to individuals who wish to perform clinical research and to present at national and international meetings.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be part of a rota shared by 10 junior clinical fellow level or equivalent. This provides a timetable of fixed clinical commitments which would be determined by both their clinical training needs and the service requirements of the Institute. There may be an element of administrative duties. Primarily clinical commitments are ward-based and will involve the trainee rotating between blocks of general hepatology, pretransplant assessment, and post-transplant management. The rota also includes twilight and night shifts where the doctor will be fully supported by a specialist registrar and Consultant on call with them.
The Post holder accepts that they will also perform duties in occasional emergencies at the request of the appropriate consultant in discussion, where practical, with both senior and junior colleagues. The Post holder would not be expected to undertake work of this kind for long periods of time.

Qualifications and Registration Essential
