Job summary
The post holder will be responsible for providing a high standard of evidence-based care to patients throughout their operative journey, within the guidelines of the Trust, the HCPC and the NMC.
The post holder will provide support and guidance to the theatre team within the clinical area, and will assist with the training and development of junior staff and students.
The post holder will take responsibility for running operating lists in conjunction with and in the absence of a Senior Theatre Practitioner.

Workforce
Works in close partnership and co-operation with the Senior Theatre Practitioners and Theatre & Recovery Co-ordinator, thus ensuring effective management of the clinical area.
Communications and Relationships
Is expected to establish communication with Senior Theatre Practitioners and Theatre & Recovery Co-ordinator to assist in the resolution of any complex or sensitive situations.

Job description Job responsibilities
Responsible in the care of post op patients in the Main Recovery and Day Theatre Recovery. The role includes:
Airway management
Pain management.
Management of PONV
Maintaining patients homeostasis.
Drug and IV fluid administration.
IV cannulation.
Hygiene and wound management.
Management of arterial line.
PCA / nerve catheter / epidural prescription and management
Temperature management.
Safe transfer of patients to wards and critical care.
Care of Level 2 (HDU) patients.
Care of paediatric patients.
Responsible for assisting anaesthetist in the Pain List which could involve wearing of lead apron.

Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
Qualified ODP with HCPC registration or Qualified Nurse with NMC registration and relevant anaesthetic course
Desirable
Mentorship course or willingness to undertake training within three months of appointment
Experience Essential
Minimum 1 years' experience working medicine or surgery at Band 5 level
Knowledge Essential
Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills Ability to plan, problem solve and prioritise Awareness of clinical governance and risk management Computer literate

Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills Able to work full 24/7 shift patterns (days, nights and weekends) according to service needs Ability to maintain a professional demeanour in pressurised or stressful situations
