Job summary
The Senior Recovery Mental Health Worker plays a key role within the Urgent and Crisis Team, supporting the delivery of high-quality, safe and recovery-focused mental health care. Working alongside clinicians and members of the multidisciplinary team, the post holder provides practical, person-centred support to individuals experiencing mental health difficulties, distress or crisis. The role involves acting as a second practitioner during crisis assessments, contributing to the assessment process through a recovery-oriented perspective and helping identify social, practical and emotional support needs.
The post holder will deliver timely interventions as part of the 72-hour follow-up pathway, supporting individuals following a crisis assessment to access appropriate services, strengthen coping strategies and promote recovery and independence. This role requires excellent communication skills, sound judgement, effective risk awareness, and the ability to build positive therapeutic relationships with service users, carers and partner agencies.
Main duties of the job
The Senior Recovery Mental Health Worker will provide focused support and interventions to individuals experiencing mental health difficulties within the Urgent and Crisis Team. They will work collaboratively with service users, carers, clinicians and external agencies to ensure individuals receive appropriate support, signposting and follow-up care.
Key duties include acting as the second practitioner alongside a clinician during crisis assessments, providing information relating to recovery-focused goals, social circumstances and practical support needs. The post holder will deliver telephone and face-to-face interventions for individuals identified for the 72-hour follow-up pathway, helping to reduce distress, promote resilience and facilitate access to appropriate community resources.
The role also involves identifying and escalating risks appropriately, maintaining accurate clinical records, completing referrals, supporting care coordination and participating in multidisciplinary team discussions. The post holder will promote recovery principles, social inclusion and person-centred care while contributing to service development, reflective practice, training activities and continuous quality improvement initiatives

The Senior Recovery Mental Health Worker will support the delivery of effective, recovery-focused mental health interventions for individuals accessing the Urgent and Crisis Team. The post holder will act as the second practitioner during crisis assessments, supporting clinicians to identify social, practical, emotional and recovery-focused needs and contributing to the overall assessment of an individual's circumstances.
The role includes delivering brief interventions and structured follow-up support within the 72-hour follow-up pathway. This will involve engaging with service users through telephone and face-to-face contact, utilising active listening, solution-focused approaches and motivational techniques to help individuals manage periods of distress, develop coping strategies and access appropriate support networks.
The post holder will liaise with a wide range of professionals and agencies to facilitate referrals, coordinate interventions and ensure continuity of care. They will promote recovery, independence, social inclusion and positive wellbeing by supporting individuals to engage with community-based services and resources relevant to their needs.
The Senior Recovery Mental Health Worker will maintain accurate and timely electronic records, undertake risk identification and escalation, comply with safeguarding responsibilities and work in accordance with Trust policies, procedures and professional standards. They will contribute to multidisciplinary team working, reflective practice, service evaluation and quality improvement initiatives whilst supporting colleagues and providing informal guidance to Recovery Workers where appropriate.

Knowledge and skills Essential

Previous experience working in a Mental health community setting
Training and qualifications Essential
oNVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent relevant qualification, or equivalent experience. oCommitment to ongoing training and professional development.

oExperience of working with people experiencing mental health difficulties. oExperience of providing support in a health, social care, community or voluntary sector setting. oExperience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
