Our Lihir Operation, located on the beautiful island of Niolam, approximately 800km north of Papua New Guinea's capital, Port Moresby, is one of the world’s largest gold mines. Set within a geothermically active, extinct volcanic crater, Lihir operates an open-pit mine producing refractory ore, which undergoes pressure oxidation and conventional leaching to recover gold. Our workforce includes both residential and commute rosters, creating a diverse and dynamic team. Lihir offers a range of recreational facilities, including a gym, sports club, restaurant, bar, swimming pool, tennis and squash courts, and a 9-hole golf course. Purpose We are seeking an Engineer Planning to join our Technical Services team at Lihir, one of the world's largest gold mining operations. Reporting to the Superintendent Mine Planning, you will provide technical engineering support across mine planning, closure planning and project development activities. Working closely with Mining, Environment, Closure and Technical Services teams, you will develop practical engineering solutions that support safe, efficient and sustainable operational outcomes. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineering professional who enjoys solving complex problems, working across multiple disciplines and contributing to long-term mine planning and closure strategies.
Essential Duties
• Degree qualification in Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering or a related discipline. • Experience in mine planning, technical services, project engineering, engineering studies or closure planning. • Strong analytical, problem-solving and planning capability. • Ability to interpret technical information and develop practical engineering solutions. • Experience preparing technical reports, plans and engineering documentation. • Strong communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with a range of stakeholders.
• Open pit mining experience. • Mine closure, rehabilitation or environmental planning experience. • Exposure to tailings, water management or environmental engineering projects. • Project management experience. • Familiarity with mine planning, scheduling or engineering software.

Working Conditions Roster The role will be performed at site on a 21-day on, 21-day off roster.
