MAINTENANCE WORKER I Maintenance and Custodial Services Department Purpose: The Maintenance Worker I – Grounds helps maintain safe, functional, and visually appealing outdoor environments across Beaverton School District campuses. Under general supervision, this position carries out routine landscaping, turf maintenance, hardscape cleaning, and light outdoor equipment operation to support student, staff, and community use. Essential Job Responsibilities:
• Grounds & Turf Care: Perform general grounds upkeep, including mowing, edging, string-trimming, leaf collection, weeding, and bed maintenance. Prune low trees and shrubs.
• Site Inspections & Hazard Removal: Inspect school grounds, athletic fields, and playgrounds for safety risks, debris, or damage; report hazards or repair needs to leadership.
• Equipment Operation & Care: Safely operate walk-behind/riding mowers, blowers, trimmers, pressure washers, and hand tools. Perform routine maintenance on assigned equipment (e.g., fluid checks, blade sharpening/cleaning).
• Hardscape & Facility Upkeep: Clear walkways, parking lots, and building entrances of litter, leaves, brush, and ice/snow during severe weather.
• Support & General Maintenance: Assist higher-level maintenance personnel or trades with larger outdoor repair or landscape projects. Utilize the District's electronic work order system.
Minimum Qualifications
• Education & Experience: High school diploma or GED equivalent. Basic experience operating groundskeeping tools or commercial lawn equipment preferred.
• Licensing: Valid Oregon or Washington driver's license.
• Skills: Ability to safely operate landscaping power tools, follow multi-step written and verbal instructions, and maintain standard safety practices.
• Clearance: Ability to pass a physical exam and a background check.
Working Conditions & Physical Demands Requires prolonged walking, standing, bending, and lifting moderate to heavy loads in all weather conditions.
