Now Hiring: Heavy Duty Forklift Operator (Support our Welding Team- Yard Jockey) 1st Shift: 6:00AM-5:30PM Mon-Thurs Weekly Pay $25-27/hr Job Title: Yard JockeyThe Yard Jockey operates heavy-duty forklifts and supports daily yard and shop operations in a small structural fabrication environment for our Welders. You move steel, stage materials for welders and fabricators, assist with shipping and receiving, and perform light fabrication and general shop tasks. This is a hands-on, non-stationary role that requires working throughout the yard and shop, staying safety-focused, and being flexible to jump in wherever support is needed.Responsibilities
• Operate heavy-duty forklifts in the yard and shop to move and position steel and other heavy materials safely and efficiently. • Stage materials for welders and fabricators to ensure production runs smoothly and workstations remain supplied. • Support shipping and receiving activities, including loading and unloading trucks, packaging materials, and assisting with inventory-related tasks. • Perform light fabrication work beyond simple machine operation, such as basic cutting or preparation tasks to support welders and fabricators. • Assist with general shop duties as needed to keep operations running, including cleanup, organization, and material flow throughout the facility. • Maintain strong safety awareness at all times, following shop and yard safety procedures and using equipment properly. • Move throughout the yard and shop for most of the shift, remaining active and responsive to changing production needs. • Collaborate with welders, fabricators, and other team members, communicating clearly and supporting a smooth production workflow. Must Have Qualifications:
• Must be okay working in a loud non-climate controlled environment! • Examples of direct experience > Skid Steers or Excavators > Moving tons (heavy steel) of materials. • Proven heavy-duty forklift operating experience, preferably in environments handling large equipment or heavy materials such as construction or industrial settings like manufacturing or construction jobs. • Demonstrated ability to handle and move steel and other heavy materials safely in a yard and shop environment. • Experience with material handling and staging for welders and fabricators to support production workflows. • Strong safety awareness and commitment to following safety procedures in a fabrication shop and yard setting. • Ability to stay on the move and work throughout the yard and shop for most of the shift in a non-stationary role. • Team-oriented mindset with a willingness to jump in and help wherever needed. • Comfort working around steel, heavy materials, and fabrication equipment. • Comfort working in a small, busy shop that can be messy and requires hands-on involvement. The environment is hands-on and can be messy, with no air conditioning, so comfort working in a warm, industrial setting is important. You use heavy-duty forklifts, overhead and jib cranes, saws, and other fabrication-related equipment throughout your shift. The schedule is first shift, either 5:00 AM4:30 PM or 6:00 AM5:30 PM, Monday through Thursday, with overtime available on Fridays until 11:00 AM. The workday includes two 15-minute breaks and a half-hour unpaid lunch.
