The key responsibilities include delivering specialist diabetes nursing care, undertaking complex clinical assessments, initiating and reviewing diabetes treatment plans, and providing specialist advice and support to patients and healthcare colleagues. The person specification includes qualifications and experience as a First Level Registered Nurse with post-registration development in diabetes nursing.

Undertake complex clinical assessments, identifying physical, psychological, social, and cultural factors that may impact care. Initiate, review, and evaluate diabetes treatment plans in accordance with local and national guidance. Work autonomously while contributing effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment. Provide specialist advice, education, and support to patients, carers, and healthcare colleagues. Contribute to clinical governance, service development, audit, and quality improvement activities. Support the development of standards, protocols, and safe clinical practice across the service. Maintain high-quality clinical documentation and participate in team and professional network meetings.Person SpecificationEssential CriteriaQualifications and Experience First Level Registered Nurse. Evidence of post-registration development in diabetes nursing. Significant post-registration experience within the speciality of diabetes. Experience supporting patients with diabetes in acute, community, or primary care settings.Knowledge and Skills Current knowledge of diabetes care, NICE guidance, and evidence-based practice. Understanding of relevant NHS legislation and policy. Excellent communication and presentation skills. Ability to interpret and analyse complex clinical information. Effective workload management and prioritisation skills. Ability to work independently and use professional judgement. Competent IT skills.Desirable Criteria Degree or Diploma in a health-related subject. Independent Non-Medical Prescriber qualification. Experience undertaking clinical audits. Experience working within multidisciplinary teams. Experience delivering education to healthcare professionals and patients.
