COMMUNITY INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Coordinator of Secondary Mathematics Department: Leadership and Learning Reports To: Executive Director of Advanced Academics and Secondary Curriculum Days: 208 Primary Purpose Provide leadership and coordination for the district's secondary mathematics instructional program. Develop, implement, monitor, and continuously improve curriculum, instructional frameworks, preparedness documents, assessments, resources, and professional learning to ensure a guaranteed and viable curriculum for all students. Support campus administrators, instructional coaches, and teachers in providing high-quality Tier 1 instruction aligned with district expectations, the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), and state assessment requirements. Qualifications Education/Certification:
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited university
• Master's degree preferred
• Valid Texas teaching certificate with appropriate mathematics certification
Special Knowledge/Skills:
• Knowledge of secondary mathematics curriculum and instruction
• Strong knowledge of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and state assessment requirements
• Knowledge of effective Tier 1 instructional practices
• Knowledge of curriculum design, assessment development, and data analysis
• Ability to develop curriculum frameworks, preparedness documents, and instructional resources
• Ability to analyze student performance data and use findings to improve instruction
• Ability to provide effective professional development and instructional support
• Strong organizational, communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and timelines
Experience:
• Minimum of three years of successful secondary mathematics teaching experience
• Experience in curriculum development, instructional coaching, department leadership, or instructional leadership preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties Instructional and Program Management
• Provide leadership for the development, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of the district's secondary mathematics program.
• Develop, maintain, and revise district secondary mathematics curriculum frameworks that establish clear expectations for teaching and learning across courses and campuses.
• Ensure district mathematics frameworks are aligned with the TEKS, district scope and sequence, adopted instructional materials, state assessment expectations, and district instructional priorities.
• Develop and maintain preparedness documents that clearly communicate the knowledge, skills, concepts, vocabulary, representations, prerequisite skills, and level of rigor students need to demonstrate mastery of identified mathematics standards.
• Ensure frameworks and preparedness documents provide teachers with clear guidance for instructional planning while supporting appropriate responsiveness to individual student needs.
• Regularly review and revise curriculum frameworks, preparedness documents, and instructional resources based on student achievement data, teacher and administrator feedback, changes in state standards or assessments, and identified instructional needs.
• Develop and maintain timelines to ensure frameworks, preparedness documents, assessments, and other instructional resources are completed and available to teachers prior to the start of instruction.
• Support the implementation of district-adopted mathematics instructional materials and ensure alignment between adopted resources and district curriculum expectations.
• Promote high-quality Tier 1 mathematics instruction that develops conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, mathematical reasoning, problem solving, and student discourse.
• Collaborate with district curriculum staff to ensure vertical and horizontal alignment of mathematics curriculum and instructional expectations.
• Assist in the selection, implementation, and evaluation of mathematics instructional materials, digital resources, and supplemental programs.
Assessment and Student Achievement
• Collaborate with the Assessment and Accountability Department to ensure district mathematics assessments align with the TEKS, curriculum frameworks, preparedness documents, and appropriate levels of rigor.
• Analyze state, district, campus, and classroom assessment data to identify strengths, instructional gaps, trends, and areas requiring additional support.
• Assist campus administrators, instructional coaches, and teachers in using student performance data to make instructional decisions.
• Support campuses in developing appropriate intervention and acceleration plans based on identified student needs.
• Assist with the development and implementation of common formative assessments and other tools to monitor student learning.
• Monitor mathematics achievement across campuses and student groups and recommend instructional strategies and supports to improve student outcomes and close achievement gaps.
• Prepare and update local assessments.
Professional Development
• Plan, develop, coordinate, and facilitate professional learning aligned with district mathematics priorities, frameworks, preparedness documents, adopted instructional materials, and identified teacher needs.
• Provide ongoing, job-embedded support to secondary mathematics teachers, instructional coaches, department chairs, and campus administrators.
• Model effective instructional practices and assist teachers in translating curriculum expectations into high-quality daily instruction.
• Facilitate collaborative planning and professional learning communities focused on standards, instructional planning, student work, assessment data, and effective mathematics practices.
• Build teacher and leader capacity to effectively utilize district frameworks and preparedness documents as instructional planning tools.
• Provide curriculum and instructional support for new secondary mathematics teachers.
School/Organizational Climate
• Promote a positive, collaborative culture focused on high expectations, continuous improvement, and student achievement.
• Build and maintain positive working relationships with teachers, instructional coaches, administrators, district staff, and other stakeholders.
• Work collaboratively with campus leadership teams to identify instructional needs and provide responsive support.
• Communicate district curriculum expectations and instructional priorities clearly and consistently.
School/Organizational Improvement
• Participate in district and campus improvement planning processes as assigned.
• Use student achievement, implementation, and observational data to evaluate the effectiveness of the secondary mathematics program and recommend improvements.
• Conduct campus and classroom visits to monitor curriculum implementation, identify instructional trends, and determine professional learning and support needs.
• Collaborate with campus and district leaders to develop and implement support plans for campuses or mathematics programs requiring additional assistance.
• Remain current on research-based mathematics instructional practices, TEA guidance, state standards, accountability requirements, and assessment changes.
Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management
• Assist in developing and administering the secondary mathematics program budget based on documented program needs and district priorities.
• Recommend instructional materials, equipment, resources, and programs necessary to support the secondary mathematics curriculum.
• Maintain accurate records and documentation related to curriculum development, professional learning, program implementation, and assigned projects.
• Ensure district resources are used effectively and appropriately to support mathematics instruction and student achievement.
Policy, Reports, and Law
• Implement policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, Texas Education Agency guidance, and local board policy related to assigned areas.
• Compile, maintain, and submit reports, records, and other documents as required.
• Maintain confidentiality and comply with district policies, procedures, and ethical standards.
Communication and Community Relations
• Establish and maintain open communication with principals, teachers, instructional coaches, district leaders, and other stakeholders regarding the secondary mathematics program.
• Communicate curriculum updates, instructional expectations, available resources, and implementation guidance in a timely manner.
• Respond to campus needs and requests for mathematics curriculum and instructional support in a timely and professional manner.
Professional Growth and Development
• Participate in professional development activities to maintain knowledge of current research, practices, and trends in mathematics curriculum and instruction.
• Demonstrate a commitment to continuous professional growth and improvement.
• Attend and participate in district, regional, and state meetings and professional learning opportunities as appropriate.
Other
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Advanced Academics and Secondary Curriculum and/or Assistant Superintendent of Leadership and Learning.
