Job SummaryYou will serve as a SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST in the Environmental, Safety and Health (ESH) Office of SUPSHIP.
QualificationsYour resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector applying safety and occupational health standards to control or eliminate workplace hazards for the safety and health of employees. Major DutiesYou will review and interpret existing and new Occupational, Safety and Health (OSH) regulations and policies to determine their applicability to SUPSHIPNN and Ships Force operations.You will direct the development and issue of local instructions for control of safety and health hazardous materials/process with the goal of reducing or eliminating employee exposure to such hazards.You will direct the acquisition and calibration/maintenance of all instruments/tools/facilities required by the Occupational Safety and Health Office for an effective OSH program.You will provide input to proposed local or higher authority OSH regulations, policies and beneficial suggestions, primarily in terms of their effectiveness in reducing/controlling employee health hazards.You will assist the ESH Manager in the research and resolution of occupational health problems assigned by higher authority or recognized locally.You will assist in the development of surveillance criteria and audit plans and in conducting of periodic audits to determine the effectiveness of the SUPSHIPNN, Ships Force, and the contractor's OSH program.You will assist the Human Resources Office in the processing of mishap and health related employee compensation claims to ensure that complete and properly interpreted health records are available for the claim evaluation process.You will maintain fire prevention plans for vessels stationed at NNS as well as for SUPSHIPNN facilities including currency of fire marshals and fire wardens.You will provide consulting services to SUPSHIPNN departments/offices, contractors, and Ships Force, with respect to the requirements for and effectiveness of existing/proposed measures for the reduction or elimination of employee health hazards.
