The Department of Humanities, Arts, & Film (HAF) at the University of South Florida seeks to fill a 9-month, full-time, and tenure-earning position for an Assistant Professor of Audiovisual Media & Sound Studies. Expected start date is August 7, 2027. Salary is negotiable. The faculty member will teach interdisciplinary undergraduate and graduate courses and advise MA student thesis projects.

A Ph. D. in film studies, music studies, media studies, cultural studies or related field from an accredited institution is required. Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant Professor. Applications from individuals who are ABD are considered, but the degree must be conferred by the appointment start date. Preferred areas of expertise include the relationships between sounds and images in the context of analog and/or digital technologies; human and nonhuman soundscapes; national and transnational cultures; affect and emotion; and the social and cultural histories of viewing and listening techniques and practices.
