About this role

Job summary

The Endoscopy Service at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust is seeking an experienced and highly competent Clinical Endoscopist to join our expanding multidisciplinary team.

This is a substantive service delivery post requiring established autonomous practice rather than a developmental training opportunity.

Applicants must hold relevant JAG accreditation, demonstrate current independent endoscopy practice, achievement of national quality indicators, and the clinical judgement required to manage patients safely throughout the endoscopy pathway.

The successful candidate will undertake independent diagnostic and therapeutic gastrointestinal endoscopy on sedated and non-sedated patients within their defined scope of practice. They must demonstrate sound knowledge of GI pathology, endoscopic indications, recognition and management of significant findings and complications and appropriate escalation of clinical concerns.

The role requires a strong commitment to patient safety, evidence-based practice, professional accountability and continuous professional development in accordance with NMC requirements, JAG standards and Trust policies.This is an excellent opportunity to join a progressive endoscopy service focused on clinical excellence, education, innovation, patient experience and quality improvement.

Main duties of the job

The post is 1.0 WTE and the post-holder will normally undertake five endoscopy lists per week, with participation in agreed rotational backfill arrangements. Applications for part-time or job-share arrangements will be considered where service requirements can be met. The post holder will contribute to referral validation, surveillance activity, clinical governance, audit, quality improvement and service development. They will work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team and support the education and training of trainee clinical endoscopists, nursing staff and junior medical colleagues.

Education/ qualifications Essential

Registered Nurse (level 1) Post registration qualification in specialty Educated to postgraduate diploma/degree level or equivalent experience JAG accredited Non-medical prescribing

Experience Essential

Up to date knowledge and experience in lower GI endoscopy Clinical leadership at a senior level in an acute setting including people, financial and change management Experience of running nurse-led clinics Experience of undertaking audits of research, as necessary e.g. audits of clinical incidents Experience of involvement in the development and reviewing of appropriate guidelines, protocols and pathways Experience of managing investigations and resolving complaints Experience in quality assurance projects Experience of providing health advice Experience of deputising in a senior role

Desirable

Service improvement experience Experience in analysing and presenting data to a range of audiences

Skills Essential

Independent Upper and Lower GI colonoscopist, JAG accredited Technical ability to be able to learn to handle an endoscope and troubleshoot problems that may occur with the working of the instrument
