We are looking for an enthusiastic candidate to join our team at Benfield
Medical Reception staff are representatives of the practice and therefore it is essential the post-holder will
Ensure that patients are received in a courteous, reassuring and non-judgemental manner
Ensure that patients needing urgent attention are seen in a logical and non-disruptive manner
Explain practice arrangements to new patients and those seeking temporary help
Ensure that correct procedures are carried out
Undertake a wide range of clerical tasks, have excellent keyboard skills and knowledge of word processing and data inputting
Be required to work on their own initiative and be first point of contact for the building in which they are based
Provide an administrative and secretarial support function to the Practice
To be able to work with minimum supervision within the parameters of this job description
To be part of the multi-disciplinary team and to act as a team member
Main duties of the job
Reception duties
Opening up and locking-up of practice premises and maintaining security in accordance with Practice protocols
Offer patients an appointment booking service, by phone and face-to-face and administer the appointment booking system
Prepare repeat prescriptions in accordance with the practice policies and protocols
Answer patient enquiries with the support of other practice staff as necessary
Undertake all tasks associated with the day-to-day running of the computer system including links with patient services
Advise patients of relevant charges, accept payments and issue receipts.
Liaise with other receptionists in the organisation of clinics
You are required to attend practice meetings
To be involved and take part in training, audits and risk assessments as and when appropriate
To undertake all other administrative duties necessary to support the smooth running of the Practice and as directed by the Assistant Practice Manager and Practice Manager
About us
The surgery has a population of around 10,000 patients so we are a very busy practice.
We do regularly have staff outings and we try to organise a few outings a year.
We consider ourselves a very friendly practice and welcome a range of medical students over the year.
There are a lot of groups that patients can attend from craft groups to table tennis and also we have an allotment on-site

Keeping the reception area, notice-boards and leaflet dispensers tidy and free from obstructions and clutter
Advise patients of relevant charges, accept payments and issue receipts.
Liaise with other receptionists in the organisation of clinics

Clearing and re-stock consulting rooms as required
Making tea/coffee and performing occasional errands as requested
To be involved and take part in training, audits and risk assessments as and when appropriate
