Job summary

18 Week Support is seeking experienced Ophthalmology Nurses to support NHS Trusts across the UK through our clinically led insourcing services

The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary ophthalmology team providing high quality patient care and supporting NHS Trusts to increase clinical capacity and manage patient demand

This role offers flexible clinical sessions with opportunities available according to NHS Trust requirements and the nurses availability

18 Week Support will provide support throughout the registration compliance and onboarding process

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will provide high quality nursing care to patients attending ophthalmology services

The role will involve supporting ophthalmology clinics assisting with patient assessments preparing patients for procedures monitoring patients and providing appropriate aftercare

The nurse will work closely with Consultant Ophthalmologists and other members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure safe and effective patient care

The successful candidate will be expected to maintain accurate clinical records follow relevant clinical guidelines and work in accordance with NHS Trust policies and professional standards

This role offers flexible clinical sessions with opportunities available across NHS Trusts depending on service requirements and the nurses availability

Job description Job responsibilities

Provide high quality nursing care to patients attending ophthalmology services

Support Consultant Ophthalmologists and the wider multidisciplinary team during clinics and procedures

Undertake appropriate nursing assessments and monitor patients throughout their care

Prepare patients for ophthalmology examinations procedures and treatments

Assist with minor ophthalmic procedures where required

Administer medication and treatments within professional scope of practice

Monitor patients following procedures and identify any concerns requiring clinical review

Provide appropriate patient education and advice regarding treatment and aftercare

Maintain accurate and timely clinical records

Ensure patient safety infection prevention and clinical governance standards are maintained

Communicate effectively with patients relatives and members of the multidisciplinary team

Work in accordance with NHS Trust policies professional standards and relevant clinical guidelines
