Job Title: Apprentice Human Resources Adviser (Policy, Reward & HR Projects) Contract Type: Fixed Term Fixed Term Contract End Date:September 2028 Purpose for Fixed Term:Apprenticeship

Main duties of the job

This is an exciting opportunity to join our team and develop your HR career while gaining a recognised professional qualification.

We are looking for an Apprentice Human Resources Adviser to join our Policy, Reward and HR Projects team. This paid apprenticeship will give you practical HR experience while completing the Level 5 People Professional Apprenticeship, leading to a CIPD Associate Diploma in People Management. You will receive protected learning time and support to apply your learning in practice.

You will work closely with colleagues across HR, including HR Business Partners, line managers and staff-side representatives, supporting work that has a real impact on colleagues across the organisation.

About us

As one of the largest acute teaching Trusts in England, we offer learning and development opportunities to help you achieve the career you aspire to. UHS is rated 'Good' by the CQC and in the latest national NHS Staff Survey, we were in the top 10 acute trusts for staff engagement and for staff recommending the hospital as a place to work or receive care.

We support flexible working and will consider requests taking into account the needs of the service. UHS employees are able to access a range of NHS discounts, are entitled to a minimum of 35 days paid holiday (pro rata), and we offer a generous pension scheme.

Southampton is an attractive place to live and work situated on the south coast, with an international airport and direct trains to London. The New Forest National Park and beaches of the Jurassic coast are also right on our doorstep. The city offers living costs 30% lower than London and 17 schools rated outstanding by Ofsted.

We believe that using technology wisely shows strong time management and commitment to innovation. However, personalising your recruitment application to highlight your unique skills and experiences is crucial. Relying too heavily on generic, AI-generated content instead of drawing from your own strengths and accomplishments may lead to your application being rejected if multiple candidates present identical or similar information.

Job description Job responsibilities

In this role, your key responsibilities will include:

You will help coordinate job evaluation processes, support managers with job descriptions and role design, contribute to HR policy reviews, and support the delivery of key workforce projects. You will also help with project planning, preparing information, analysing workforce data, supporting communications and keeping project work on track.

Alongside your day-to-day role, you will be supported to complete the CIPD Level 5 apprenticeship, giving you the opportunity to apply your learning in practice while developing your professional HR knowledge and skills. This post would suit someone who enjoys working collaboratively, is organised, has good attention to detail and is committed to learning and developing within HR.

We are looking for someone who can communicate clearly, manage competing priorities and build positive working relationships with colleagues across HR and the wider Trust. You will be proactive and willing to learn, with the ability to handle sensitive information professionally and provide helpful, accurate advice and support.

This is a 22-month fixed-term role aligned with the completion of the apprenticeship. Once you have completed your apprenticeship, the experience, qualification and support you gain will provide a strong foundation for future opportunities within our team.

Please be advised that this vacancy may close earlier than stated if we receive a large number of applications.
