IUC Clinical Assessment Service (CAS) (111) Deputy General Manager
111 Call Centres currently based at Barking and Croydon

This position is a key leadership role within the Integrated Urgent Care (IUC) Directorate, leading the Clinical Assessment Service to ensure that patients receive a high quality, safe service. The CAS is a multi-disciplinary team of clinicians who provide telephone clinical assessments for patients who have contacted the service via 111 or have had their case transferred from the 999 service.
The role will be integral to the management of the CAS clinical workforce and the post holder will work within the senior management team to deliver, improve and design innovative service delivery models as part of the growth and expansion of the IUC within LAS and the wider London system.
The post holder will be the first line manager for the Clinical Team Navigators within the CAS as well as for the GPs and ACPs, working in conjunction with the CAS GP leads.
There will be a requirement, as part of the role, to provide 24/7 clinical oversight on an on- call basis.

Main duties of the job
As one of the Deputy General Managers you will be responsible for the delivery of KPIs and for implementing plans to improve them. You will be responsible for quality assurance and governance, as well as the day to day and long term management of your team.
This role requires excellent communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team, whilst making autonomous clinical and operational decisions.
As part of the role, you will be responsible for maintaining patient safety by managing and balancing the risk across all areas of the CAS queue, ensuring that appropriate skilled clinicians deliver a safe, effective and efficient 24/7 service to patients.
You will need to be a registered Nurse or Paramedic with previous or current experience working as a Navigator within a Clinical Assessment Service. You will also require a current clinical decision software qualification.
Successful candidates at shortlisting will be invited to attend assessment centres and interview, provisionally planned for week commencing 12th October.

General Management:
Lead and line manage the IUC Clinical Team Navigators (CTN).Work with the CAS GP site leads to manage the ACPs and GPs.Work as a Navigator in the 111 CAS as required to oversee patient queuesEnsure that the 111 CAS maintain current Consult and Complete levels, meet any KPIs and implement plans to improve these levels.Manage the delivery of quality assurance within the CAS, ensuring that the required standards are met and maintained.Ensure the Trust retains its clinical decision support tool licences by ensuring audit compliance, both in number and quality.Ensure that all CAS staff have the relevant skills needed to undertake their role by working closely with the CAS and Clinical Education teams.Work closely with the governance and CAS teams to ensure that all risk, compliance and assurance processes are in place and are effective.Undertake audits relating to the Navigator teams.Ensure the local risk registers are populated accurately and that action is taken to develop and oversee the completion of actions to address, mitigate or close any gaps in compliance.Ensure risks are escalated in line with guidance.Ensure that Datix is used, populated and kept up to date and provide routine and ad hoc reporting.Investigate incidents and complaints.Attend/chair internal and external meetings and ensure that information presented is accurate and comprehensively prepared.Manage work schedule efficiently, prioritising activities and demonstrating flexibility when unforeseen circumstances arise.Provide 24/7 on call cover, supporting service delivery within IUC:
Responsible for the CAS for patients calling 111.Maintain patient safety by managing and balancing the risk across all areas of CAS queues.Responsible for ensuring the appropriate skilled clinicians to deliver a safe effective and efficient 24/7 service to patients.Performance review, monitoring and response to internal and external parties for the performance and outcomes of the Clinical Assessment Service.Provide clinical support and advice to the duty IDM, ODM and CTNs.Design and implement the shift tactical plan for the CAS, in conjunction with the IDM, this includes capacity, demand and skill mix across CAS covering the workforce and GPs.Leadership of a team of multi-disciplinary clinical workforce including GP, ACP and Pharmacists in real time and to enhance, develop and improve the service delivery.Ensure any incidents, escalation or issues are escalated appropriately.Liaise with the Strategic Medical Advisor.Liaise with external stakeholders, including representation of senior management at external forums i.e. commissioner/ provider/ contract meetings.Negotiate with other providers including management of sub-contractors in real timeDealing with the Regional Team to manage Pan London activity
