Salary and Benefits The hourly rate for this position is $25.86 - $34.04 per hour depending on education and experience plus a generous benefit plan. About the Position Springfield Public Schools seeks outstanding candidates for the Part-Time (6.5 hours per day) position of Native American Youth Coordinator. This position provides services to self-identified Native American youth grades pre K-12 and maintains services and activities at the Chifin Native Youth Center at Two Rivers/Dos Rios Elementary School. The individual in this position will support the attainment of eight objectives that are required of Federal Title VI (Indian Education) funded programs:
• Increase academic achievement.
• Increase knowledge of cultural identity and awareness.
• Enhance problem-solving and cognitive skills development and directly support attainment of State standards.
• Increase school attendance rate.
• Increase graduation rate.
• Increase prevention activities for violence, suicide, and substance abuse.
• Increase parent participation.
• Increase support for at-risk students.
The individual in this position will work Monday-Friday from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. This position will involve attending or hosting occasional events after school, in the evening or on weekends which will replace some hours typically scheduled during the week. This position has a 183 work day calendar and works during the months that school is in session. Essential Functions Essential duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned.
• Coordinate the implementation and management of Federal Title VI programs and initiatives in compliance with federal and state laws, regulations, and District policy, including all activities that directly affect students, staff, and participants of the programs.
• Manage recruitment, identification, and verification of qualifying students for the District's Indian Education Program and coordinate the collection of student data for program assessment and reporting; assist with reporting for state and federal grants.
• Coordinate daily needs and offerings of the program with the intent of supporting Native students' academic and cultural needs, leading to increased achievement, graduation and post-secondary and career opportunities.
• Manage access to the Chifin Native Youth Center as an educational and cultural hub within the District.
• Develop recruitment materials for services, events, and program opportunities, manage newsletter, and communicate directly to families and students.
• Work with students, counselors, families and post-secondary institutions to support post-secondary application and financial aid completion.
• Build and maintain positive, professional and cooperative communication and relationships with students, school staff, department staff, parents, community partners, local Tribes, and state/country regional government agencies.
• Collaborate with the District's equity TOSA, building administrators, teachers, and support staff to support Native American Student Unions across the District.
• Coordinate contracted positions - e.g. tutors and cultural instructors - in response to grant requirements and through collaboration with student/District needs.
• Develop and disseminate program information and materials, develop and deliver presentations to interested agencies and organizations under direction and guidance of supervisor.
• Advocate for identification, assessment, and supplemental service for enrolled students, as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Requirements for Initial Consideration The following are minimum requirements to be hired or to transfer into this position:
• Associates degree or the equivalent* AND
• Two years of experience working with Native students and families.
* Associate degree education equivalency equals two (2) years of increasingly responsible work experience for each full year (36 credit hours, 24 semester hours) of college. Eventual Requirements of Incumbent The following are not required before hire or transfer, but will be required once placed in the position:

• Demonstrated experience working with Native students in ways that strengthen and affirm their cultural identity and promote academic success.
• Familiarity and experience with Federal Title VI/Indian Education Grant programs.
• Familiarity and experience working with Oregon Tribes and Native American organizations within Oregon and Lane County.
• Demonstrated experience building and maintaining collaborative relationships with education and community partners.

Work Environment This position will be performed in a normal office or school environment. The incumbent may be exposed to bodily fluids, blood borne pathogens, sick and/or contagious students. The incumbent may be exposed to toxic chemicals (for disinfecting) and outdoor weather conditions.
