The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Operating conventional or computer numerical control (CNC) machine tools. 2) Making machine setups and resolving machining problems during the actual machining process; 3) Selecting proper cutting tools according to the type of metal being machined and correcting machine feeds and speeds necessary to perform the required operation; 4) Working from blueprints, sketches, work orders, models of parts to be made, or other specifications to determine which machine tool and attachment would be used for each operation to be performed. Major DutiesYou will be responsible for manufacturing, repairing, and rebuilding parts and items of equipment from raw stock of different metals and metal alloys to include stainless steel alloys, aluminum, titanium, magnesium and other materials.You will set up and operate most types of conventional and computer numerical control machine tools such as lathes, vertical and horizontal boring mills; bench, plain, and universal milling machines; shapers; planers.You will work from blueprints, sketches, work orders, models of parts to be made, or other specifications; determine which machine tool and attachment would be used for each operation.You will manually adjust coolant flow, speeds and feeds, and other settings to obtain dimensional tolerances.You will perform precision handwork to finish, fit, and assemble machined parts using various bench mounted and handheld power tools and hand tools such as files, drills, reamers, buffers, die grinders, and scrapers.You will perform bench work to assemble complex components using various trade methods of installation.You will lay out and drills matching holes for bolts, alignment dowel pins, or other fasteners as necessary.You will be selected, trained, and qualified to perform work on Nuclear systems and components for Naval Surface Ships and Submarines.
