The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION. Installing, repairing and testing various submarines and surface craft systems, piping's and components including Refrigeration Air Conditioning (RAC) plant, Refrigeration Ship's Stores (RSS) plant, Low Pressure Air Dehydrator, chill water, temporary support systems, and various self-contained units Making templates, jigs and other fixtures required for repair or installation Removing and installing piping, tubing and system valves Applying knowledge of air conditioning and refrigeration compressors, ship's air conditioning, refrigeration, chill water, low pressure air dehydrator, cooling oils, and temporary support equipment related to submarines and surface crafts Applying standard formulas, shop mathematics, trade theories and industry practices in calculating needed materials and problem solving Applicants must meet the requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Job Qualification Handbook for Trades and Labor Occupations. Major DutiesYou will remove, install, align, repair and test various submarines and surface craft systems.You will make templates, jigs, and other fixtures required for repair or installation utilizing knowledge of materials and their versatility.You will apply knowledge of air conditioning and refrigeration compressors, ship's air conditioning, chill water and temporary support equipment aboard submarines and surface craft.You will apply standard formulas, shop mathematics, trade theories and industry practices in calculating needed materials and problem solving.You will troubleshoot shipboard refrigeration systems, piping and components to determine the area of difficulty; what parts or materials are required; and the methods used to complete repairs.You will plan and lay out work using blueprints, sketches, word orders and other technical work documents.
