About this role

Job summary

The Community Paediatric Dietitian will be a member of the Paediatric Dietetics Community Team and will use assessment and diagnostic skills to care for patients and advise primary care health professionals on future care. The post holder will be an autonomous practitioner, collaborating with colleagues in primary care, community, and hospital settings as appropriate.

Main duties of the job

Provide specialist paediatric dietetic assessments and treatment interventions to children and families within health centres, children's centres and other locations as appropriate, within Merton. Liaise with other agencies and healthcare professionals and maintain accurate clinical records as per the clinical record keeping policy. Build strong networks with GP's, NHS Health Care Teams, Health visitors, School nurses, and other referral agencies and independent contractors to facilitate appropriate referrals. Work with the clinical lead and medicines management team to implement paediatric appropriate prescribing initiatives across CLCH. Initiate and participate in clinical governance activities/ audit within the Integrated Complex Needs Team. Ensure community health care teams and non-NHS organisations have access to up to date nutritional information through development of education and training sessions. Act as a source of expertise to members of Integrated Complex Needs Team and other Health Professionals within CLCH. To be able to read, action and implement dashboard/ service data to affect timely patient intervention under the direction of the B7 paediatric dietician.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

Degree in Dietetics Health and Care Professions Council Registration Evidence of post registration education and training in paediatric dietetics

Desirable

Membership of the British Dietetics Association Member of Paediatric Special Interest Group Behaviour change training

Experience Essential

Post-registration experience in a range of paediatric clinical areas including allergy and intolerances, fussy eating, faltering growth (with or without reflux), obesity and nutritional and hydration needs. Experience of implementing paediatric appropriate prescribing initiatives Experience in training/teaching healthcare professionals and school staff Experience in the training of student dietitians Experience in contributing to policy, procedures, guidelines and clinical standards development Experience in conducting clinical audits and/or research Experience of working within an MDT

Desirable

Experience working in Community Dietetics Experience in supervising the work of others Experience/ interest in developing working with paediatric home enteral feeding patients Experience in working with children and young people with special needs

Skills Essential

Advanced skills in the assessment and treatment of clients with nutrition related disease Ability to apply core Dietetic skills across a range of paediatric clinical conditions Ability to work autonomously Ability to work as a team member and promote collaborative multi-disciplinary and multi-agency working Ability to problem solve, prioritise and demonstrate clinical reasoning Good communication and report writing skills, in both verbal and written format Advanced IT skills - Microsoft Word, Power point, Excel, Electronic Clinical Record Keeping Knowledge of and commitment to equal opportunities Ability to work with clients from a diverse range of backgrounds Ability to manage time effectively, meet deadlines and deal with work pressures and demands
