Where is the work: Field-based: Work is conducted on-site at customer locations. What's in it for you: Trane is hiring a Rental Technician Team Lead to join our organization in Carrollton, TX. In this role, you will be responsible for leading rental technicians and supporting the successful installation, service, maintenance, startup, and troubleshooting of rental equipment at customer sites throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area. This role combines hands-on technical leadership with day-to-day team supervision, customer coordination, safety enforcement, and operational support to ensure projects are completed efficiently and to a high standard of customer satisfaction.
What you will do:
• Supervise and support a team of rental technicians responsible for installing rental equipment at customer sites throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
• Install, service, maintain, troubleshoot, test, start up, and commission rental equipment at customer locations.
• Serve as a direct point of contact for customers & rental account managers, ensuring a high level of service, responsiveness, and satisfaction throughout each project.
• Complete job walks with account managers and leadership to understand job scope, site conditions, timelines, equipment needs, and installation requirements.
• Oversee preventive maintenance and repairs on HVAC rental equipment and related systems.
• Support field setup, operation, and teardown of rental equipment at customer sites.
• Help plan labor, materials, tools, and equipment needed for on-site work, while anticipating and resolving jobsite issues.
• Promote and enforce a strong safety culture by ensuring compliance with all safety procedures, use of PPE, and safe operating practices.
• Maintain accountability of company vehicles, tools, equipment, and other assigned assets by documenting use, condition, and required repairs.
• Provide day-to-day leadership, guidance, coaching, and technical support to rental technicians to drive quality and productivity.
• Maintain flexibility to support overtime, weekends, and occasional overnight travel as business needs require.
What you will bring:
• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience required.
• 5+ years of experience in commercial HVAC service, maintenance, installation, or rental equipment support required.
• Previous lead, supervisory, or team coordination experience preferred.
• Experience in troubleshooting, servicing, and repairing commercial HVAC equipment, including chiller systems, required.
• Experience with rental equipment installations, startups, and field service support preferred.
• Experience calculating equipment needs, including tonnage and related jobsite requirements, preferred.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and proficiency using handheld technology such as smartphones and tablets.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• EPA certification; additional trade-related certifications are a plus.
• Experience with generators, diesel-powered equipment, electrical distribution equipment, heating equipment, or similar rental fleet equipment is a plus.
• Strong customer service, communication, planning, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently in the field and lead technicians in a fast-paced service environment.
