Main duties of the job
The Associate Clinical Director plays a pivotal leadership role within the Integrated Care Board (ICB), ensuring the effective delivery of the organisation's plans and priorities. Working closely together with other clinical Directors, the Associate Clinical Director provides strategic and operational leadership across a portfolio of programmes, ensuring that system ambitions are translated into tangible improvements in care, outcomes, and experience for local populations. They act as a key interface between strategic planning and operational delivery, ensuring that the ICB's vision and objectives are fully embedded across teams, partners, and programmes.
A core part of the Associate Clinical Director's role is to drive delivery of the ICB plan, ensuring alignment with national policy, local strategies, and partner priorities. This includes overseeing progress against the ICB's core "must-do" requirements while maintaining a sharp focus on longer-term transformation and system development. Qualifications Essential
oEducated to Master's degree level or equivalent level of experience in a relevant field (e.g. health, care, public services, professional expertise, or related discipline). oEvidence of continuous professional development, with a track record of keeping skills and knowledge current covering a number of disciplines such as Finance or Management. oSignificant experience at Senior Management (sub board) within the NHS, public sector, or a comparable complex system. oRegistered with a relevant Professional Body and up to date with CPD. oHold a postgraduate or management qualification, or equivalent experience. oLeadership qualification
Knowledge and Experience Essential
oExtensive leadership experience in a complex, multi-agency environment, ideally within health and care commissioning oDemonstrable success in delivering organisational change, transformation, and integration at scale. oDeep understanding of the NHS, Integrated Care Systems, and the wider health and care policy context, including the priorities of the NHS 10 Year Plan and statutory duties of an ICB. oStrong track record in delivery of strategic planning, commissioning, and/or system-wide service redesign to improve outcomes and value for money. oEvidence of working effectively with a broad range of partners, including local authorities, providers, community organisations, and national bodies. oExperience of leading in a politically sensitive environment and balancing competing demands with diplomacy and sound judgement.
