Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 3 Special Needs Health Care Assistant based at The Hive College to support the needs of students aged 19-25 with complex health and learning needs.
The working hours are 26.0 hours/week over 4 days (Mon; Tues; Weds & Fri), 6.5 hours per day Term-Time only. No weekend work is required for this role.
If you have an NVQ level 3 in Care/Social Care and experience of working with adults, especially young adults with complex additional health needs, we would like to hear from you!
Full competency-based training will be given to the successful applicant.
Main duties of the job
o Assist with nursing care, including delegated clinical procedures as set out in the Care Plan and following appropriate competency-assessed training.
o Undertake enteral feeding in accordance with prescribed feeding regimes, including feeding type, volume, rate, and timing. Check tube placement and ensure the tube is safe to use in accordance with local guidance.
o Administer prescribed medications via PEG or gastrostomy tubes safely, including appropriate preparation, flushing, and compatibility checks. Monitor for and respond to potential complications, such as tube blockage, displacement, infection, leakage, or signs of intolerance.
o Maintain accurate documentation of all feeds, fluids, medications, and care provided.
o Escalate any concerns regarding tube function, feeding tolerance, or changes in the young person's condition to the Lead Nurse.
o Undertake home visits.
o Maintain strict confidentiality of all information and records.
o Work within Trust policies and procedures.
o Report any changes in the condition and/or circumstances of students to the College Nurse.

Observe a personal duty of care towards equipment and resources.
Take reasonable care for the health and safety of yourself and other persons who may be affected by your acts or omissions at work, and co-operate with Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust in adhering to statutory and local health and safety regulations.
Ensure accurate, timely, and effective communication with the College Nurse when receiving workload instructions and when reporting information about students.
Take appropriate action when concerns are identified, including safeguarding issues, reporting these to the College Nurse and other relevant professionals, and accurately recording all issues and actions taken.

Trust policies and procedures. Health and Safety Regulations. Fire Safety Regulations. Undertake other duties commensurate with the grade of the post, as agreed with the relevant Line Manager.
Minimise the Trust's environmental impact wherever possible, including:
Recycling appropriately. Switching off lights, computers, monitors, and equipment when not in use. Reducing paper waste by minimising printing and photocopying. Conserving water where possible. Reporting faults and heating/cooling concerns promptly. Minimising unnecessary travel. Considering the environmental impact of purchases where the role includes ordering or using supplies and equipment. Liaise with parents and carers, on behalf of the College Nurse or other professionals, by telephone, providing support and information relating to health issues.
Person Specification
Qualifications / training Essential
Good standard of GCSE passes including English at C or above NVQ in Care /social care Level 3 or equivalent Evidence of continued learning and development.
Experience Essential
Previous Experience of working with young people with complex health and learning disability.
Desirable
Previous Experience of dealing with members of the public. Previous experience of using computers. Previous clerical experience.

Demonstrate willingness to undertake a range of duties and to learn new tasks including clinical procedures where relevant.
