Job summary The Activities Facilitator will play an important role within the Living Well Team at the Betty and Asher Loftus Centre, supporting residents across residential, nursing and dementia care to enjoy meaningful, engaging and enjoyable experiences. Working 40 hours per week, the postholder will plan, organise and facilitate a varied programme of group and individual activities, adapting sessions to different interests, abilities and needs. The role includes organising outings, celebrations and special events, supporting activities that celebrate Jewish life, culture, traditions and festivals, and helping residents remain connected to each other and the wider community. You will build positive relationships with residents, families, colleagues, volunteers, artists, performers and community organisations, while maintaining accurate records and ensuring activities are delivered safely and in line with Jewish Care policies
Main duties of the job We are looking for a creative, energetic and compassionate Activities Facilitator to join our Living Well Team at the Betty and Asher Loftus Centre. You will help create a vibrant and inclusive community where residents can enjoy meaningful activities, develop relationships and maintain a sense of purpose and wellbeing. From creative and recreational sessions to cultural activities, outings, celebrations and Jewish festivals, you will develop a programme that reflects residents interests, abilities and individual needs. Working closely with residents, families, care teams, volunteers and community partners, you will bring new ideas and opportunities to everyday life. As an Activities Facilitator, youll play an important role in creating a vibrant and engaging community across the Betty Asher Loftus Centre (BALC).
BALC is a vibrant care campus providing residential, nursing and dementia care for older people. As part of the Living Well Team, youll plan, organise and deliver a varied programme of activities and events across the whole campus.
From creative and recreational activities to cultural, social and therapeutic opportunities, youll help people stay connected to the things they enjoy, develop relationships and maintain a sense of purpose and wellbeing.
Youll work with the Activities Lead, residents, families, colleagues, volunteers, visiting artists, performers and community organisations to create opportunities that are inclusive, personalised and enjoyable.
What youll be doing Youll:
Plan, organise and facilitate a varied programme of activities across BALC. Deliver both group and individual activities, adapting them to different interests, abilities and needs. Organise outings, special events and celebrations throughout the year. Support activities that celebrate Jewish life, culture, traditions and festivals. Work across the campus to encourage residents to connect with each other and the wider community. Build positive relationships with residents and develop an understanding of their interests, preferences and abilities. Work closely with care teams and colleagues to identify opportunities for meaningful engagement. Develop relationships with volunteers, artists, performers and community organisations. Introduce new ideas and activities to keep the programme fresh, engaging and responsive to people's interests. Gather feedback and use your experience and observations to continually improve the activities programme. Maintain appropriate records and ensure activities are delivered safely and in line with Jewish Care policies and procedures. Most importantly, youll help create a campus where activities and opportunities are a meaningful part of everyday life.
What were looking for Were looking for someone who is enthusiastic, imaginative and genuinely enjoys working with people.
Youll ideally have experience of facilitating arts, recreational or other activities, particularly with older people or people living with dementia or with differing abilities and needs.
Youll need:
Experience of planning and facilitating activities. A person-centred approach and a genuine commitment to helping people living in residential care enjoy a meaningful life. The ability to build supportive and trusting relationships. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with people from a wide range of backgrounds. Creativity and the ability to develop and introduce new ideas. The ability to work at pace while responding sensitively to individual needs. Good organisational and time-management skills. The ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, volunteers and external partners. Empathy, compassion and sensitivity. The ability to maintain accurate records and documentation. Experience of working within health or social care, the community or voluntary sector, or as part of a multidisciplinary team would be advantageous. A relevant qualification in activity, arts or recreational work would also be beneficial.
Working at Jewish festivals and special events
This is a 40-hour per week role, and flexibility is an important part of the position.
You will be expected to work during Jewish festivals, as well as occasional evenings and weekends when activities, celebrations or special events take place. Working hours will be planned to reflect the needs of the service and the activities programme.. Time in lieu will be given.
