We have an exiting opportunity for maternity cover within our skin cancer team. We are looking for a dynamic individual who can work within our vast multi disciplinary team and also show initiative to manage their own caseload of patients for support with a skin cancer diagnosis.

The successful candidate will be fully supported in this role and be expected to attend advanced communication course and work towards the ASCEND cancer nurse pathway of competencies

There will be opportunities to work with our Plastic Surgeons and Dermatology Consultants. There will be regular liaison with our colleagues in Leeds and the wider WYATT group

Main duties of the job

To support patients through diagnostics and treatment for skin cancer

To support other CNS in the team with nurse led clinics and MDT's

To work with Consultants to treatment plan and support clinics for our patients

To work with wider team in cancer tracking and supporting conversations around diagnosis and regular support for patients and staff

Job description Job responsibilities

To assess, plan, implement and evaluate specialist-nursing care, establishing mechanisms by which each patient has a coherent and comprehensive management plan. These plans will be developed with the patient and carer according to their needs and include referral to other disciplines and services observing the principles of Holistic Care.

Works as part of the MDT fostering effective professional relationships to ensure effective communication and a seamless service for patients. This includes liaison with the other hospitals and and outpatients departments.

Person Specification

Experience Essential

Significant post-registration experience, including experience of working with Oncology/ Dermatology patients Experience of assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care for patients/service-users/staff demonstrating knowledge of specific needs Experience of participating in clinical audit

Desirable

Experience in policy development Experience of developing innovative practice Experience of working in an MDT and across organisational and professional boundaries

Skills Essential

Report writing / Presentation skills Computer literate - ability to use Word/Excel/PowerPoint, etc. Clinical credibility Clinical skills specific to area of specialty Ability to work as part of a team Organised approach to work with ability to prioritise and delegate Mentoring and advanced communication skills Leadership skills Excellent time management and organisation skills Proven skills in teaching individuals and small groups Evidence of reflective practice

Knowledge Essential

Knowledge and understanding of application of relevant National Guidance both general and specialty related e.g. QST Frameworks, NICE etc. Knowledge and understanding of the NHS national targets and priorities Knowledge and understanding of the needs of the defined caseload (patients/service-users/staff) Understanding of Information Governance and Confidentiality

Recruitment and Selection, Appraisal and other relevant HR/People management training Knowledge of change management processes

Qualifications Essential

Appropriate NMC Registration(RN/RM/RN Child) Degree or equivalent qualification (e.g. diploma level specialist training) or experience Relevant specialist qualification or training to diploma level or equivalent experience Supporting Learning in Practice (SLIP) or equivalent. Or an approved supervisor/assessor preparation accreditation Evidence of current CPD

Desirable

Post registration qualification in relevant specialty Leadership or management development qualification Advanced communication skills qualification Non-medical prescribing qualification
