Reporting to the Staff Sergeant, Operational Skills Section, the incumbent performs specialized technical work in firearms inspection, maintenance and repair. The incumbent is responsible for servicing, completing maintenance, evaluating, and testing a variety of firearms, weapons and related inventory, and completes related administrative work to ensure all service firearms are operational, serviced and ready for issue. Work is performed in accordance with established policies and procedures. The incumbent exercises considerable independence of judgment within established policies and procedures.Schedule / Hours of WorkThis is an on-site position and the anticipated schedule for this position will be determined by operational needs. The base full-time hour for this position is 35 hours/week. Please note, the hours are subject to change based on operational needs and adherence to the Collective Agreement. Warehouse and office environment. Lifting heavy objects may be required.RESPONSIBILITIES Services a variety of firearms, weapons and related inventory. Diagnoses and repairs related mechanical issues. Inspects and tests inventory of firearms. Uses a variety of specialized tools including but not limited to a drill press and grinder. Schedules maintenance per guidelines including diagnosing mechanical problems and replacing parts. Maintains contacts with technical representatives of major firearms and ammunition manufacturers. Evaluates firearms, ammunition, and associated equipment. Maintains inventory of firearms, parts and inventory related to the work. Performs repairs to reloading equipment and firearms. Completes destruction of related inventory in accordance with policy. Performs examination of firearms for investigative units Provides recommendations, information and direction to staff and internal/external stakeholders. Acts as a resource as it relates to the work. Develops and maintains records, files and documentation. Provides expert court evidence, opinion and testimony as needed. Performs related work as required. QUALIFICATIONS Completion of the grade 12, supplemented by Canadian Restricted Firearms Course and Canadian Firearms Licence. Five years of related experience including firearms maintenance and repair and armourer experience with Glock and Colt platforms. Special Municipal Constable status. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
