About this role
Field has entered its next phase of growth. In June, the UK energy regulator, Ofgem, selected 16 long-duration energy storage projects to progress to delivery. Field were awarded 5 of these. Collectively, in MWh terms, our projects are approximately 3 times the capacity of all battery energy storage installed in the UK to date. We currently have 4 projects totalling over 1GWh of energy storage in construction in GB with lots more delivery to do. Your Mission As Project Engineer you will oversee electrical delivery on some of the world’s longest duration BESS projects, from pre-construction through to energisation and handover to Asset Operations. The role demands hands-on, pro-active management of your projects and the contractors and designers Field appoints to deliver them (BESS suppliers, BoP contractors, consultants). You'll need to be highly engaged, resilient, execution-focused and detail-oriented. You should be passionate about delivering high-quality engineering projects, well-versed electrical design standards, and comfortable working as part of a multi-disciplinary project team. You will report to the Head of Delivery (Michael) and work closely with in-house experts across Grid, BESS, Design, Procurement and Asset Operations. If you've managed electrical design and construction delivery end-to-end on utility-scale energy projects, we'd love to hear from you! If you have experience across BESS projects in the UK that is even better. What you’ll be doing This is a broad and varied role with the opportunity to have massive impact. Key responsibilities including Managing pre-construction engineering activities (following project development): Preparation and continuous improvement of key project technical documentation (e.g. interface matrix, specifications, employers requirements). Preparation and continuous improvement of technical schedules as part of the tender process (working closely with the procurement team). Technical evaluation of sites via site visits and 3rd party site investigations (including for potential acquisition opportunities) Support the technical due diligence process required for lender/investor approval. Technical evaluation of tender responses, meticulously assessing contract proposals. Collaborate with our in-house design team to ensure we have accurate, coordinated and compliant design drawings / SLD’s. Risk assessing design from a health & safety perspective. Coordinate with external consultants and manage scope, time and budget. Drive engineering/design optimisations through pre-construction and procurement Coordinate with the grid development team and become the key interface with DNO/TO delivery and commissioning team through the construction phase. Managing construction engineering activities (up to commercial operations): Analysis and evaluation of detailed design submissions from contractors. Support and input to the HAZID/HAZOP process with our contractors. Ensure technical RFI’s from our contractors are closed-out swiftly and accurately. Oversee quality management during manufacturing, FAT, delivery and site works. Oversight of the C&I/SCADA aspects of our projects, coordinating and evaluating input from BESS suppliers, BoP Contractors, Optimisers, etc. Manage the testing and commissioning phase of our projects. Coordinating internal teams and contractors to safely energise, commission and handover our assets to Asset Operations. Support the Project Manager with inputs to project schedule, risk register and budget. Review and Evaluate O&M documentation submitted by our contractors.
