Job Title: Maintenance MechanicJob DescriptionThe maintenance mechanic plays a key role in ensuring the reliable operation of all building systems and the equipment used in production, packaging, and distribution. This position requires strong multi-craft capabilities across mechanical, electrical, and process disciplines, with the ability to effectively assess, troubleshoot, and correct unplanned equipment breakdowns to support facility performance and uptime. Responsibilities • Perform preventative maintenance on building systems and production, packaging, and distribution equipment to minimize downtime and extend equipment life. • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues on industrial machinery and heavy equipment. • Carry out repairs and adjustments on equipment and systems to restore safe and efficient operation. • Interpret and work from blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings to identify components and plan repairs. • Use hand tools and industrial maintenance tools to perform mechanical and electrical tasks safely and accurately. • Conduct PLC and electrical troubleshooting to identify faults and support resolution of control system issues. • Respond to unplanned equipment breakdowns, prioritize tasks, and work effectively under pressure to meet facility objectives. • Collaborate closely with the plant engineer and other team members to coordinate maintenance activities and share technical knowledge. • Apply strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills to improve processes and reduce recurring equipment issues. • Demonstrate leadership by supporting, guiding, and teaching others in maintenance best practices and safe work methods. • Maintain clear documentation of maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections as required by facility standards. Essential Skills • Proven experience as a maintenance mechanic or maintenance technician in an industrial environment. • Strong troubleshooting skills across mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. • Hands-on experience with equipment repair and maintenance in production or heavy equipment settings. • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical diagrams. • Proficiency in using hand tools and industrial maintenance tools safely and effectively. • Experience with PLC troubleshooting and electrical troubleshooting on industrial equipment. • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and understanding of industrial processes. • Ability to prioritize work, manage multiple tasks, and perform effectively under pressure. • Motivated, self-directed work style with a willingness to teach and support others. • Leadership capabilities and the ability to work collaboratively with engineering and operations teams. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Background in industrial maintenance, production support, or general labor within a manufacturing or steel shop environment. • Experience performing preventive maintenance programs on building systems and production equipment. • Familiarity with hydraulics and pneumatics in an industrial setting. • Comfort working with heavy equipment and complex mechanical assemblies. • Strong problem-solving mindset and attention to detail in diagnosing equipment issues. • Ability to communicate clearly with team members and follow established maintenance procedures. • Interest in ongoing learning and skill development in electrical, mechanical, and process technologies. You will work closely alongside the plant engineer, collaborating on maintenance tasks and projects. The setting is hands-on and industrial, requiring comfort with physical work and adherence to safety practices appropriate for a steel and heavy equipment facility. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bridgeport, CT. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $27.14 - $27.14/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
