Job Title: Shipyard Laborer / Marine Trades HelperJob DescriptionThis role supports shipyard and marine repair operations by performing fire watch duties, general labor, and hands-on assistance to skilled marine trades personnel aboard U.S. Navy vessels. You will help maintain and repair ships by monitoring hot work such as grinding, welding, and cutting metal, setting up and cleaning work areas, moving materials and tools, and assisting with cable pulling and electrical-related activities. The work is physically demanding and includes regular lifting of 40–50 pounds, working in a heavy industrial environment, and adapting to days that may focus primarily on fire watch, labor, or trades support.Responsibilities

• Perform fire watch duties for grinding, welding, cutting metal, and other hot work to help ensure a safe work area aboard vessels. • Set up work areas by staging tools, materials, and equipment needed for ship repair and maintenance tasks. • Clean up work areas after tasks are completed, including removing debris and organizing tools and materials. • Move and handle materials, tools, and equipment throughout the shipyard and aboard vessels, including regular lifting of 40–50 pounds. • Assist marine trades personnel with maintenance and repair duties aboard U.S. Navy vessels, following instructions from experienced professionals. • Support shipyard and marine repair operations as a trades helper, performing general labor tasks to keep projects moving efficiently. • Pull cables and assist with electrical-related activities under the guidance of skilled tradesworkers. • Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively as part of daily tasks in ship repair and general labor. • Adapt to varying daily assignments that may focus primarily on fire watch, general labor, or trades assistance depending on project needs. • Follow all safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment while working in a heavy industrial shipyard environment. • Climb ladders and access different levels of the vessel as needed to support repair and maintenance work. • Work in confined spaces and dark areas within the ship, such as holds or compartments, while maintaining situational awareness and safety. Essential Skills

• Demonstrated experience using hand tools in an industrial, construction, or repair environment. • Demonstrated experience using power tools safely and effectively in a heavy industrial or construction setting. • Ability to perform heavy lifting on a regular basis, including lifting 40–50 pounds repeatedly during the workday. • Ability to work extended hours, including frequent overtime, in a physically demanding role. • Comfort working in a shipyard or heavy industrial environment with noise, machinery, and active repair operations. • Ability to climb ladders and work at various heights aboard vessels. • Ability to work in confined spaces and dark areas within ships while maintaining safety and focus. • Reliability and willingness to perform general labor tasks, trades assistance, and fire watch duties as needed. • Basic understanding of general labor practices in construction, ship repair, or marine repair environments. • Attention to safety procedures and ability to consistently wear and use required personal protective equipment. Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Previous shipyard or ship repair experience is preferred and will help you contribute quickly to marine repair projects. • Experience in marine repair, construction, or other heavy industrial work environments is an advantage. • Trades helper or general laborer in industrial settings is beneficial. • Familiarity with cable pulling and basic electrical-related activities in a support role is a plus. • Ability to work comfortably in all weather conditions in an outdoor and onboard ship environment. • Comfort working around metal structures and in environments where grinding, welding, and cutting operations are common. • Willingness to learn from experienced marine trades professionals and develop practical ship repair skills. You will work from approximately 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday, with frequent opportunities for additional overtime that may extend shifts up to 12 hours. Work takes place in all weather conditions and involves exposure to noise, machinery, and ongoing grinding, welding, and cutting operations. Personal protective equipment must be worn at all times, and you will regularly climb ladders, navigate tight spaces, and work in confined, sometimes dark areas inside the vessel, potentially using a headlamp. The setting is physically demanding and fast-paced, suited to individuals who are comfortable with heavy industrial work and close collaboration with marine trades teams. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Portland, OR. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $22.00 - $23.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
