About this role

Job Title: Construction LaborerJob DescriptionThis role offers the opportunity to learn and grow into a pipelayer position with an underground construction company specializing in sanitary sewers and watermains for new construction projects. You support the onsite superintendent and foreman with a variety of tasks while progressively learning how to lay pipe and contribute to underground utility installations. Responsibilities • Support the onsite superintendent and foreman by performing assigned construction labor tasks on underground utility projects. • Assist with sanitary sewer and watermain installation for new construction sites. • Learn and apply proper techniques for laying underground pipe under the guidance of experienced pipelayers. • Handle and operate construction tools and equipment as directed, including hand tools and basic machinery where applicable. • Prepare work areas for underground construction, including excavation support, trench preparation, and site cleanup. • Work as part of a crew on sewer, watermain, storm sewer, concrete, or asphalt projects as needed. • Follow safety procedures and guidelines to maintain a safe work environment on active construction sites. • Perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting, carrying, shoveling, and working in and around trenches. • Communicate effectively with foreman and crew members to ensure tasks are completed accurately and efficiently. • Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in clean and orderly condition at the end of each shift. Essential Skills • At least 2 years of construction labor experience, specifically working on sewer or watermain crews, or on concrete or asphalt storm sewer crews. • Hands-on experience performing physical labor on active construction sites. • Ability to follow directions from a superintendent and foreman and complete tasks safely and efficiently. • Comfort working in underground construction environments, including around trenches and heavy equipment. • Basic proficiency with common construction hand tools. • Strong work ethic and reliability, with the ability to maintain steady attendance and performance. • Ability to work cooperatively as part of a construction crew. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience in underground construction work. • Prior experience as a pipelayer or assisting pipelayers. • Experience as a top man, supporting pipe installation from above the trench. • Experience as a tail man, assisting with alignment and joining of pipe sections. • Familiarity with operating or working around construction equipment such as loaders, excavators, dozers, backhoes, and concrete/paving equipment. Work EnvironmentYou work in a new construction, underground setting focused on sanitary sewer, watermain, and storm sewer installations. The job takes place outdoors on active construction sites, often in and around trenches and heavy equipment. You use a range of construction tools and may work near machinery such as loaders, excavators, dozers, backhoes, and concrete or paving equipment. The work is physically demanding, requires appropriate workwear suitable for construction conditions, and typically follows steady, full-time hours aligned with standard construction shifts. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Royal Oak, MI. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $35.00 - $43.75/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
