About this role

Job Title: Test Equipment Design EngineerJob DescriptionThe Test Equipment Design Engineer designs and develops custom electrical test equipment and infrastructure that supports Battery Management System (BMS) reliability testing. In this hands-on role, you collaborate closely with reliability engineers and hardware design teams to create automated test systems that validate critical battery technologies. You take ownership of electrical system design, component selection, and safety architecture, and you personally build, commission, and debug the test equipment you design. This position is ideal for an engineer with proven experience designing electrical systems, rather than solely operating or maintaining them.Responsibilities

• Design and develop custom test equipment and electrical infrastructure to support reliability testing of BMS and related hardware. • Create detailed electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and Bills of Materials (BOMs) using appropriate CAD and electrical design tools. • Design safety systems including interlocks, fault detection, emergency stop circuits, and electrical protection solutions that meet safety and compliance requirements. • Program and integrate PLCs, data acquisition (DAQ) systems, instrumentation, and industrial automation hardware into cohesive automated test setups. • Translate PCBA and hardware functional requirements into robust, scalable test solutions and test architectures. • Design wire harnesses and low-voltage signaling as well as high-current power distribution systems for test racks and test beds. • Perform hardware bring-up, validation, and functional testing of new test equipment and fixtures. • Troubleshoot and debug electrical and control issues, perform root-cause analysis, and implement corrective actions to improve test system reliability. • Select and size electrical and electronic components to ensure safe and reliable operation of test equipment under expected load conditions. • Develop and build test racks, test beds, and manufacturing test equipment for battery, energy storage, or renewable energy applications. • Configure and integrate HMIs and MCU-based control systems to provide intuitive operator interfaces and automated test sequences. • Use oscilloscopes, lab equipment, and diagnostic tools to verify signal integrity, measure performance, and validate test setups. • Collaborate with design and reliability engineering teams to support product qualification efforts and long-term reliability testing. • Document test equipment designs, wiring diagrams, safety features, and operating procedures to support repeatability and maintenance. • Work independently in a laboratory and engineering development environment to build, wire, validate, and maintain test infrastructure. Essential Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Robotics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field. • 3+ years of experience designing custom test equipment, reliability test systems, automated test equipment (ATE), or engineering test infrastructure. • Proven experience designing electrical systems, including ownership of system architecture, component selection, and safety design. • Strong understanding of electrical safety principles, hazard mitigation, and safe work practices in test and lab environments. • Experience designing systems that incorporate interlocks, fault protection, and emergency stop circuits for personnel and equipment safety. • Hands-on experience with PLCs, DAQ systems, power supplies, contactors, and industrial automation hardware. • Ability to independently build, wire, validate, and troubleshoot complex test equipment and electrical panels. • Comfort working in a laboratory and engineering development environment with test racks, PCBA fixtures, and instrumentation. • Engineering Experienced with demonstrated design responsibilities; roles limited to technician-only maintenance or operation are unlikely to meet the design requirements. • Electrical schematic creation using tools such as EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical, or Altium. • PLC programming and industrial controls experience for automation and test sequencing. • Experience with DAQ (Data Acquisition) systems for measurement, logging, and control. • Knowledge of power electronics and PCBA testing methodologies. • Experience in test rack and test bed design and build, including mechanical layout and electrical integration. • Competence in component selection and sizing for power distribution, signal conditioning, and protection devices. • Practical experience in electrical safety design, including interlocks, fault detection, and emergency stop (E-Stop) integration. • Ability to create wiring diagrams and BOMs that are clear, accurate, and suitable for manufacturing and assembly. • Hands-on hardware bring-up, troubleshooting, and debugging skills for electrical and control systems. • Experience with low-voltage systems and wire harness design. • Familiarity with BMS (Battery Management System) concepts and reliability testing practices. Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with Battery Management Systems, battery packs, energy storage systems, or renewable energy technologies. • Experienced in reliability testing, including long-term and accelerated test methodologies. • Experience with low-voltage signaling design and high-current power distribution systems in test environments. • Wire harness design experience for both low-voltage signal and high-current power applications. • Hands-on experience with industrial automation systems and manufacturing test equipment. • MCU programming skills for embedded control of test equipment and fixtures. • HMI configuration experience to create operator-friendly interfaces for test systems. • Proficiency with mechanical CAD software such as SolidWorks, NX, or similar tools for test rack and fixture design. • Experience using oscilloscopes and a broad range of laboratory equipment for measurement and diagnostics. • Experienced in component design or selection for electrical test equipment and power electronics. • Knowledge of BMS reliability considerations, battery safety, and energy storage system performance testing. • Familiarity with AutoCAD, EPLAN, SolidWorks, and related design tools used in electrical and mechanical design engineering. Why Work Here? You join a culture that values hands-on engineering, technical excellence, and collaboration across reliability and hardware design teams. The environment encourages ownership of ideas from concept through commissioning, giving you the opportunity to see your designs directly influence critical battery and energy technologies. You gain exposure to advanced test methodologies, modern industrial automation, and cutting-edge energy storage systems, while working in a setting that supports professional growth, continuous learning, and meaningful impact on product reliability and safety.Work EnvironmentYou work primarily in a laboratory and engineering development environment focused on electrical test equipment and industrial automation. The role involves frequent hands-on work with PLCs, DAQ systems, power supplies, contactors, oscilloscopes, and other lab instrumentation, as well as test racks, test beds, and manufacturing test equipment. You use electrical CAD tools such as EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical, and Altium, along with mechanical CAD software like SolidWorks or NX, to design and document test infrastructure. The setting is a technical, safety-conscious environment where adherence to electrical safety principles, interlocks, fault protection, and emergency stop systems is integral to daily operations. Work typically follows standard engineering hours, with time split between design activities at a workstation and practical build, wiring, validation, and troubleshooting tasks in the lab.
