Job Title: Yard WorkerJob DescriptionThe yard worker plays a key role in preparing vehicles for auction by working outdoors in all weather conditions to accurately check in wrecked cars. This includes verifying VIN numbers, collecting personal items left in vehicles, and taking clear, high-quality photos for online listings. The role is fast-paced yet highly detail-oriented, and is best suited for self-motivated individuals who enjoy working independently on their feet in an outdoor environment. Responsibilities • Work outdoors in the yard in all weather conditions to check in wrecked vehicles for auction. • Verify and record vehicle identification numbers (VINs) and vehicle types with a high level of accuracy. • Collect personal items left in vehicles, such as sunglasses, phones, loose change, and other belongings, ensuring nothing is overlooked. • Take clear, high-quality photographs of each vehicle for online auction listings, focusing on proper angles and image quality. • Process approximately 25–30 vehicles per day while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail. • Walk throughout the yard and work independently, staying productive without constant supervision. • Handle and lift items up to 50 pounds as needed during the check-in and item collection process. • Read and write clearly to complete any required documentation or labeling related to vehicle check-in. • Follow all safety guidelines and use required personal protective equipment (PPE), including gloves, glasses, and safety vests. • Dress appropriately for outdoor work in varying weather conditions, including cold, heat, rain, and other elements. Essential Skills • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions for the full shift. • Capability to check in approximately 25–30 vehicles per day while maintaining accuracy and quality. • Strong attention to detail when verifying VIN numbers, identifying vehicle types, and capturing photos. • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds safely and repeatedly as needed. • Ability to read and write clearly to complete basic documentation and records. • Comfort working on your feet for extended periods and walking throughout a large yard. • Self-motivation and ability to work independently without constant supervision. Additional Skills & Qualifications • General labor experience in environments such as manufacturing, landscaping, or construction. • Basic car knowledge or familiarity with different vehicle types. • Willingness to perform repetitive tasks while maintaining consistent quality. • Reliability in adhering to schedules and completing daily vehicle check-in targets. Work EnvironmentThis role is entirely outdoors, with conditions ranging from cold winters to hot summers. The facility provides designated "heat cars" and "AC cars" where employees can take quick breaks from extreme temperatures. Team members must wear closed-toe shoes and dress appropriately for the weather, including boots, rain gear, and other suitable clothing. Required personal protective equipment includes gloves, safety glasses, and safety vests. The standard schedule is a first shift from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a 30–60 minute unpaid lunch. The team currently works around 45 hours per week with overtime, with the expectation of moving closer to a 40-hour workweek when fully staffed. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Indianapolis, IN. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
