Job Title: Production OperatorJob DescriptionThe Production Operator plays a key role in supporting automotive manufacturing by inspecting and measuring metal parts to ensure drilled holes meet precise distance and size specifications. This position involves working on the production floor in either the molding or vinyl departments, using measuring tools and basic inspection techniques to maintain quality standards and support smooth production operations. Responsibilities • Inspect metal parts to verify that drilled holes are the correct size and located at the proper distance from the end of each part. • Accurately measure parts using a tape measure and other basic measuring tools, including understanding and working with fractional measurements. • Perform visual inspections to identify defects, inconsistencies, or quality issues in parts and finished products. • Support production activities such as general labor, assembly, packaging, and general production tasks as needed. • Operate manufacturing equipment and machinery as assigned, following all safety and operating procedures. • Use hand tools and power tools to assist with production, assembly, and minor adjustments to parts or equipment. • Assist with machine operation and basic machine setup tasks under guidance, contributing to efficient production runs. • Perform quality control checks throughout the production process to ensure products meet established specifications. • Handle and move materials, parts, and products around the facility, including operating a forklift when trained and authorized. • Read and interpret simple blueprints or work instructions to understand part requirements and inspection criteria. • Use calipers, micrometers, and other measuring devices as needed to verify dimensions and tolerances. • Carry out multiple job functions across different areas of the facility, including manual machining, forklift support, or other tasks as requested. • Maintain a clean and organized work area to support safety, efficiency, and product quality. • Follow all safety guidelines and wear required personal protective equipment, including steel-toe footwear. • Collaborate with team members and supervisors to meet production goals and respond to changing priorities on the shop floor. Essential Skills • Ability to accurately read and use a tape measure, including understanding fractional measurements. • Prior manufacturing experience working on your feet for most of the day in a production environment. • Experience with general production and general labor tasks in a manufacturing setting. • Basic inspection and quality control experience, including visual inspection of parts. • Ability to perform assembly and packaging work on the production line. • Familiarity with operating manufacturing machinery and basic machine operation. • Comfort using hand tools and power tools safely and effectively. • Ability to use measuring tools such as calipers and micrometers to check part dimensions. • Basic understanding of blueprints or production drawings to follow specifications. • Willingness and ability to perform multiple job functions, including manual machining, forklift operation, and assisting in other areas as needed. • Capability to work in a non-climate-controlled facility and remain on your feet for extended periods. • Commitment to following safety procedures and wearing steel-toe footwear. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience in inspection and quality control within the automotive or manufacturing industry. • Background in machine operation or machine setup in a production environment. • Forklift experience or willingness to train for forklift operation. • Exposure to general production, assembly, and packaging processes. • Ability to adapt to different roles and departments across multiple buildings. • Interest in developing skills that support advancement into roles such as die setter, machine setup, team lead, or supervisor. Work EnvironmentThe role is based in a busy manufacturing facility that is not climate controlled, so temperatures can become hot during the summer months. Production Operators typically work in either the molding department or vinyl department, with shifts available across first, second, and third shifts on weekdays and some Sunday night work, depending on department. The work is primarily performed on the production floor, requiring extended periods on your feet and regular interaction with machinery, hand tools, power tools, and measuring equipment such as tape measures, calipers, and micrometers. The atmosphere is described as very friendly, with collaborative teams across three buildings. Steel-toe footwear is required as part of the dress code to ensure safety while working around equipment and materials. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Brighton, MI. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $17.50 - $18.50/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
