Job Title: HEO TechnicianJob DescriptionThe HEO Technician operates bulldozers and other heavy equipment to perform precise grading and earthmoving on commercial and residential construction projects. This role focuses on finish grading building pads, roadways, parking lots, detention ponds, and other site improvements while utilizing GPS machine control systems to achieve accurate design grades and elevations. The technician reads and interprets construction plans and grade stakes, collaborates closely with site teams, and ensures work meets project specifications and safety standards. Responsibilities • Operate bulldozers safely and efficiently on commercial and residential grading projects. • Perform finish grading of building pads, roadways, parking lots, detention ponds, and other site improvements to meet project specifications. • Read and interpret construction plans, blueprints, grade stakes, and site specifications to guide grading activities. • Utilize GPS machine control systems, including Topcon software, to achieve design grades and elevations accurately. • Maintain proper slopes, drainage patterns, and finished surfaces in accordance with project requirements and site design. • Work closely with foremen, survey crews, utility construction teams, and other equipment operators to coordinate and complete grading tasks. • Perform rough grading and earthmoving operations as needed to support overall site development. • Conduct daily equipment inspections and perform basic preventative maintenance checks to ensure safe and reliable operation. • Identify and promptly communicate safety hazards, equipment issues, and grade discrepancies to appropriate site personnel. • Follow all company safety policies, construction standards, and project-specific requirements at all times. • Assist with other site development and civil construction activities as directed to support project completion. • Participate in seat tests administered on active sites to demonstrate heavy equipment operating and fine grading proficiency. • Attend and complete academy training held on Mondays to maintain and enhance skills and knowledge. Essential Skills • Proven experience operating bulldozers and heavy equipment in construction environments. • Strong proficiency in fine grading for building pads, roadways, parking lots, and other site improvements. • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, blueprints, grade stakes, and site specifications accurately. • Hands-on experience using GPS machine control systems for grading and earthmoving operations. • Capability to utilize Topcon software for GPS systems to achieve design grades and elevations. • Solid understanding of grading principles, including slopes, drainage patterns, and finished surface requirements. • Knowledge of commercial, residential, utility, and civil construction practices related to grading and site development. • Commitment to following safety policies and identifying potential hazards on active construction sites. • Ability to perform daily equipment inspections and basic preventative maintenance on heavy equipment. • Effective communication skills to work collaboratively with foremen, survey crews, and other equipment operators. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience in utility construction and general civil construction projects. • Background in both commercial construction and residential construction environments. • Willingness to participate in continuous training and education programs, including CPR, trench safety, and confined space training. • Ability to complete seat tests on active sites to validate operating and fine grading skills. • Openness to attending academy sessions held on Mondays for ongoing skill development. • Strong problem-solving skills to address grade discrepancies and equipment issues. • Reliability and adaptability to assist with various site development activities as needed. Work EnvironmentThe role is based on active construction sites involving commercial, residential, utility, and civil construction projects. Technicians operate bulldozers and other heavy equipment in outdoor environments, working with GPS machine control systems and Topcon software to perform precise grading. Work is performed in coordination with foremen, survey crews, and other equipment operators in a fast-paced, safety-focused setting. Seat tests may be administered on active sites to assess skill levels, and all new hires participate in an academy held on Mondays to support ongoing training. The environment requires adherence to established safety protocols, use of appropriate personal protective equipment, and readiness to work in varying weather and site conditions. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Greenville, SC. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $28.00 - $36.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
